Add a pilot respec, it's needed badly. I accidently made my main character level pilot instead of gut cus I wasn't paying attention and thought he was my flanker...

This basically broke the build of my main character. There needs to be a pilot respec, especially considering that i'm 17 hours in and I can't find a way to edit the save files.

I'd atleast suggest making it difficult, or expensive, to respec people but cmon. This is stupid, and has borderline ruined my campaign. I don't want to restart (losing 17 hours) but at the same time my main character is now useless.

Agreed. An option to resepc at least the main character should be there.

It should put the player mechwarrior out of action for a month or two (time needed to unlearn and relearn in simulators and such) like some guy posted above. Fine with some XP loss as well.

Fair punishment in return for respeccing the PC is totally fine. I'm still on my first campaign, around 1300 days in or so, and my PC really isn't doing so well with a build that was working "decently" early game. Pretty saddening! Hoping they take some of the suggestions here under consideration for the next update.

Given the way the "meta" changes from lights to assaults, being able to respec at least your "PC" pilot deserves some serious consideration.

And no, there's no reason for "punishment".

Punishment would be good just to balance it out and to ensure the fact its not heavily exploited.

I do agree with the heavy meta change in late game though, makes my PC's skills very non-functional now. I mean, they *work* but not up to par anymore.

I would just love to have the ability to undo training, so long as we haven't run a mission or had a payday since the last time we trained. That way if I change my mind, it's not instantly too late.

I dont want any option to respec.

I want more skill trees where the pilot can choose between more skills, but still only specialize in 2.
I want more development in skills. Make them expensive as hell, so you always can use exp for every pilot, even if the highest skills costs like months of playtime.

One of my annoying pilots focus on skills to be drunk while on a mission, being lucky with not getting killed and his special skills is yell rude comments to the commander.

Ah, the Skippy skillset. Works best in a Locust running directly towards the enemy. Shin kicking is mandatory. ;)

And this annoying bastard simply refuses to die! I even put him in a small mech. And guess what....he makes one in a million headshots and takes out a heavy...ALONE.
When he realized he just earned me a full heavy mech, he started to make fun of me...on the live radio! And I just had to sit there and take it...because the bastard earned it!

For those who don't want an option to respec... my suggestion should it ever be added, would be to not use it. There, problem solved.

Respec would be fine.

I'd like for the whole skill tree to be unlockable, though. It would reward players' time and effort: play enough, and you get fully skilled characters. You could also develop characters specially for early, mid- and late game.

Best would be a slider: "0-8 skills per character". That way, everyone's needs are covered.

I think everyone who didn't take Bulwark on every single mechwarrior would like a respec option...

Which might be a sign of bigger issues in the design than just which skills are "best"...

All those people who took ace pilot + multi on their mediums only to discover most late-game missions are almost purely heavies

Out of curiosity, which skills did you go with? I generally saw value in all of the Abilities, even late game.

Multitarget, breaching shot, evasive movement. Like I said, it's viable to use but I simply have other pilots that outperform. Originally my PC was being used as a mixture of a medium frontliner/flanker on the Shadowhawk. As I got into late-game he became a flanker, but is now outclassed by a pilot that runs Ace Pilot and Bulwark. I tried using him as a firesupport, as he has nearly maxed tactics at this point, but once again is outclassed by someone designed specifically for the firesupport role.

The role that my PC was is simply not needed anymore in late-game. I could use him on a more mobile Heavy, sure, but im much more comfortable running a normal Lancer as bulwark is just such a lifesaver at times. I don't want to make him my standard frontline as evasive movement wouldn't be used to its full potential and, again, he gets outclassed by people designed for that role.

I envy your mistake, I picked brawler for my main only to discover melee never becomes practical.

I discovered that a melee build on a Grasshopper is still pretty fun late-game. It serves as both a scout and brawler in a sense, though it can't tank a ton of focused fire. You'd be better off taking a more dedicated frontliner or so over it, but it's plenty of fun and I still do decent with it.

But by re-rolling we end up with the best of both worlds!!! its not 17 hours wasted unless I did not enjoy playing those 17 hours... When I watch a good movie, is that 2-3 hours wasted? if so then I doubt I will find real satisfaction from any form of instant gratification. I do not want any dev effort spent on a re-roll. Maybe share where to go edit it for those that absolutely must know how and like to cheat.... I say Cheat because there is a MP element.

How does re-speccing or editing the campaign "player character" / commander affect MP skirmishes?

If the save-game files were "plain text" instead of whatever they are, some of us would already be pilot tweaking in the SP campaign to deal with glitches like the "low spirits forever" bug.

Does your PC have to be in every mission? even if outclassed by other pilots? Is it possible for him to manage the fight behind a keyboard and mouse?
