If you are looking for a great film as a companion piece to CKII, then the mini series Pillars of the Earth is perfect!

It is historical fiction set in the mid 12th century with the war between Stephen and Matilda as a backdrop.

You'll find all this in the film:

1. Plots, Plots, and More Plots!
2. Sucession Crisis
3. Disputed Claims
4. Loyal Vassals
5. Disloyal Vassals
6. Vassals who switch sides
7. Power of the church
8. Conflict between church and king
9. Assasinations
10. Rivalry, greed, envy
11. All character traits from CKII
12. War
13. Cathedrals
14. love
15. bastards
16. AZTEC Invasion (just kidding)

And unlike Game of Thrones, Pillars of the Earth is set in the same time period as CKII

Ohh thanks for recommending this! Will take a look!

Apparently there is another miniseries: "World Without End"

"The English town of Kingsbridge works to survive as the King leads the nation into the Hundred Years' War with France while Europe deals with the outbreak of the Black Death."

Pillars of the Earth is based on the Anarchy which took place between 1135 and 1153. I'm pretty sure you can play as many of the characters involved.

Anyway the series is very good. The book is great as well.

The books were great...I didn't particularly enjoy the miniseries though, too poorly done but it was alright I guess when I take into account it was made by the Hallmark channel.

But the books were awesome...that is if you can handle that large of a book may take away from CKII time ya know ;)
