After seeing, that the "pick the ship" thread seems to be very popular and that people habe fun with it, I thought "why not a pick the soldier thread?" to bring a fresh breeze in guessing games.

Feel free, to contribute to the thread if you want! If you like it, have fun! If not, it was worth a try!

I start off with the first one! Hint: He is the only soldier of his country, who received a certain and very high decoration twice during WW2!

I try to mix all kinds of nationalities and difficulties here! Feel free to post a new soldier too, if you want. This thread should be for everyone, who's interested in the men and women behind ww2.

Upham caught my attention, when i saw a documentary. This guy fought outstandingly on Crete.

Its josef Priller. I went down the list of knights cross with oak leaves holders list on Wikipedia 11th on the list

I don't know where exactly I heard about this guy, but I thought his life in the war was interesting and sad, at the same time.

The men on the left side.
He had to fight for 3 different armys in WW2, while all the time more or less against his free will. None of them were his homeland.
(His homeland was occupied at the time.)

Haha, I can answer thanks to Antony Beevor's The Second World War. His name is Yang Kyoungjong. He was conscripted from Korea into the IJA, where he was captured by the Soviets...then the Germans, where he was sent to Normandy... then the Americans as you see here.
