Nice pic . Hmmm.... from the light there, it looks like it's in fairly shallow water, and it's got guns in casemates along the sides, so a WW1-era BB (I'm pretty sure that all the more modern ships had their secondaries in turrets), but there were a few BBs that went down in shallow water. A rough guess, but Royal Oak at Scapa Flow?

You're right in that it's not a British design (they didn't have 3.5 inch guns, at the least on their cruisers but I don't think on much else either). It's not Italian, but you're getting closer geographically..... .

Edit: Although not a lot closer, measured in miles - but still closer....

Looks to me like a French Suffren class heavy cruiser ... Likely the Suffren herself since she was the only one to survive the war.

Spot on, nice work . There were four in the class, but only one made it to the Allied side after the fall of France, the other three being scuttled in Toulon (two subsequently being raised, one for scrapping and the other to be bombed). All except Suffren had 90mm/3.5in as their largest calibre AA, but Suffren only had 75mm/3in as its largest calibre AA guns.

Looks like a battleship, but only one twin turret forward, so I'm leaning towards a pre-dreadnought, of which there aren't many left. Is it one of the old Deutschland class that Germany was allowed to keep after Versailles?

Nice ship Thordal (and nice picture as well, looks like a warm climate ). As Phrox says, it looks very pre-Dreadnought, I'd go with one of the Deutschland's as well, but I'm far from sure.

Yes, that is an old Deutchland-class battleship.
The picture is the Schlesien while transiting the Panama canal in 1938 (according to Wikipedia at least)

While we're on the topic of old battleships (although this one isn't as old by some margin).... Is Google imageable, so try and refrain from taking the easy way out unless it's proving too tough (which I'd be surprised ). This ship had six turrets for its main armament....

Well let's have another pic then:

I'm sure an image search will find it pretty quickly but for those that want a clue to doing it the old fashioned way, this ship and her sister were the only vessels to carry these guns, although they are very similar to another model of gun that saw service in both World Wars.

French? I know they still had some pre-WW1 BBs by the HoI-era which I seem to remember had wing turrets, but I forget the class name and I'm not gonna cheat

The only other possibility with that turret layout I could think of would be the Minas Geraes class, but it doesn't look quite right.

Could it be one of all the south-american dreadnoughs? Several of those had a main battery turret on each side of the ship...

Axe - seems French; post-modernization I'm guessing since she looks familiar but, not quite First nor Second World War...there's just enough tha tlooks off that I can't put a specific name to it. Thordal - perhaps that's why she looks odd to you? British-made upgrades on a French vessel?
