Hehe, and here I was ready to worship you like the new and truly god. Given your proven omnipotence your Church would have been the NSA, and we, your Followers, would have assembled on Twitter, obviously. Pity, I even had a warcry: "Say no to anachronistic religions!"

This being said, I think it would be best if we stop derailing this thread (and this way I can go back yo studying :))

Haha, cheers for posting (well, almost!) a pic Agus :). Everyone should deffo feel free to post pics as appropriate when it looks like the previous one's been guessed.

Here's one for the morning, a full-body shot, so probably fairly straightforward, although not a mainstream ship. When originally designed, this vessel would have been quite large and powerful for it's type, but delays (WWI will do that to you) meant that by the time they were launched, they didn't really stand out...

At first it reminded me of the lützow. the small tender boat looks somewhat british and the harbour could be Scapa Flow. That would make it most likely the SMS Derfflinger sometime during 1939. But it rides too high above the water lane and the foredeck is too long. It actually looks more like SMS moltke. Kinda looks like the model for the SMS mackensen too.

The HMS Hood would fit the description somewhat, but the superstructure is to "high" for that .

by now i am 65 minutes in on this one ...

honestly, looks german-eske, but I have no earthly idea which it could be.

edit:
It could be the german CL Emden. But if I am right then the hint is somewhat misleading. The Emden was layed down in 1921.
I though so as well at some point, but the Emdens hull does not seem to match the picture provided above

I can confirm that it's neither German nor British - I have on a few occasions had a brain explosion and messed up the hints, but I was extra careful about this one (partly because I'm a bit extra buggered, but hopefully careful > buggered!) To make it perhaps a bit easier, the vessel in the picture was sunk in 1942, but it's sister survived for two more years...

I think it is the HNLMS Java.
Laid down: 31 May 1916
Commissioned: 1 May 1925
Sunk: 27 February 1942

or the HNLMS Sumatra
Laid down 15 days later, took until 26/05/1926 to get commissioned.

in any case 4 hours of agony have finally come to and end. Still can't believe i forgot that the netherlands had ships.. the are normally all dead after the first year of war :)

Very nice work avaughan . It is indeed, well picked :).

Sumatra actually survived until 1944, and was expended at Normandy as a breakwater (so probably could have survived the war, but was old enough to be up for a job as a breakwater instead). Poor 'ole pictured Java, though, was sunk by Japanese cruisers in the Java Sea no less.

Here's the next one (minus a flag, photoshopped out so it's not too easy ;)). Like the previous vessel, this one also took a long time to complete, although it wasn't (directly) the first world war that caused the delay...

Soviet cruiser Krasnyi Kavkaz. Those freakish single 180mm turrets are the results of Soviets trying to build a heavy cruiser out of a Tsarist light cruiser hull and those were the largest guns that fit.

I thought I'm looking at a monitor, but there were so few of them in WWII.

Spot on :). I thought those guns would give it away fairly quickly. From my research so far, all the monitors that served in the HoI4 timeframe had actually had twin turrets as well, so even if we do see a monitor in this thread (and I'm not sure they'd qualify for HoI4 either - I can't recall if Erebus or Terror were in the line-up in past HoIs, although I think I recall Erebus from DH).

Here's one for overnight, only two of these vessels were around during WW2, but a good deal more were built originally.....

The Soviets used some smaller riverine monitors with single gun turrets (including a couple of designs that had turrets taken from the T-34 interestingly enough), but I can't see them meeting the "appears in HoI" criteria to appear in this thread.

Looks kinda like an WW1 era British destroyer. I'm not good enough on the individual classes though.

I'll take a stab, and guess the R-class destroyer HMS Skate

That's the one - it's not the picture (as per below) but that's the ship that I had in mind when I put the class picture up there. There were also a handful around in 1936 that were broken up in 1937 and 1938. HMS Skate lasted (slightly) longer than some destroyers built 15 years after it - it alright!

That picture is actually the G82 Raider. laid down in 1915, completed in 1916 and broken up in 1927.
this is the original photo before cropping, photoshopping and aging:
brit_d123.gif

That's it :). It was getting late, so went for a picture of the class instead of the ship in particular (I could find a photo of the Phra Ruang, but that was mainly a TS during the period, while Skate was more involved in frontline service). I photoshopped out the flag and designation just to make it a tad more interesting.

Here's another one for the morning. Unusually, for a vessel of this class, it only had a speed of 18 knots...

A light cruiser with 18 knots ?
Thats a travesti.

Laid down in october of 1939 finished as last ship build of the katori class.

It is the IJN Kashii from a picture taken in 1941, now hanging in the Mikasa Memorial Museum in Yokusha, Japan. (its the pre-dreadnought Mikasa, kept alive as a living museum)
Someone cropped the picture to the bow section and removed the foreground (small waves over water)

Haha, that was mostly me, to both cut out the funnels (would have made it a bit easy) and in a (vain) attempt to beat Google image search ;).
