Italian Battleship Conte di Cavour. Sunk in Taranto 1940That's the one, well deduced. It was indeed a light cruiser, and comfortably the largest warship Australia had made up to that time.
Here's another battleship (I don't think that's giving too much away!) - this one (like more than a few) met it's end as a result of aerial attack....

Caio Duilio, after Royal Navy's raid on Taranto harbour?
I don't actually think she met her end, more like a temporary vacation at the hands of a couple of tugboats on a sandbank.
HMS Illustrious send her Swordfish into, what most likely was a precursory "food for thought" to the planning of the Japanese attack on pearl harbour.
I think the hint about the planes and the fact that it sits in shallow water gives it squarely away. Couple that with the triple and dual gun turret on the front deck right in front of the bridge makes this undoubtedly the
Conte di Cavour, Itallian Pre-WW1 Dreadnought
while "anchored" on a sandbar in Taranto Harbour.
ps.: the Caio Duilio has a smaller smokestack. about half the size
Indeed. Name another two carrier classes completed with 8" guns or larger?
Kaga then? Pretty sure she also had that weird multi-deck layout when first built.
I hope you guys don't mind if I give one (I thought about this one when :

The main hint is that it served with two countries. Second hint is that she is the leader of it's class.
Edit: I'm assuming Axe's sub was succesfully guessed.
Edit 2: uploading from cellphone doesn't seem to work. But don't despair! I'll retry in a few hours when I return home.
That is the HMS P611. You can tell by the fact that the failure to post a proper picture is kinda a synonym for the achievements of the Oruç Reis that together with her brethren (P612, P614 and P615 ) never amounted to much, neither with the British nor the Turkish navies.
In fact when challenged in combat, the P614 managed managed to fire 4 Torpedos at U-408 in the arctic, despite missing with all 4 torpedos, but in tradition to the hubris exhibited by this class totally assumed it hit the opposing sub (because what else could it have done, it is the Oruc Reis CLass) and turned tail. Later it's commander was rewarded a DSO for this "acheivement", while her sister then managed to get her self sunk by U-123, not having noticed it was under torpedo attack for roughly 6 hours and 30 minutes - despite being escorted by a minesweeper - before finally being struck, sunk and totally forgotten about 100 miles sw of freeport.
Also, waaaaay to many hints and a sub following a sub made this even easier.
I can't, but if I right-click and choose show picture, it gives me the google page, with the name.wow...
Tell me that at least you can see the uploaded pic in your PC (because I can't in my phone). If that's not the case, please tell me that you hacked my phone or you phisically saw me writing the post, I'll gladly believe that way sooner than you guessing the sub with that ease.
Ps: funny response btw

Its what happend to that class and its ships. In the grand scheme of things it probably was one of the most worthless sub-classes out there during ww2. never accomplished anything but driving around in circles before being sunk/scrapped.Ps: funny response btw
