Sorry for a) double posting and b) putting up a pic while there's one outstanding, but while browsing for potential future submission for this thread I came across something I felt I had to share.

It does actually meet the criteria, in that it's a pic of a ship that should appear in HoI4 (hence why I was looking at it), but according to a rather....interesting....website I found, it seems that in truth she was.....

Wut.jpg

ABDUCTED BY ALIENS!!!

Pity the quality of the image ain't great, but the appearance of the ship looks to be pretty accurate, so if anyone wants to have a shot at guessing which vessel the aliens would want to steal, go ahead.

This one does not meet the criteria, since it's from the 70's (there's your clue), but couldn't resist (and most likely it's the better contribution I can do regarding ships).

It is indeed - she disappeared while being towed across the Atlantic to be scrapped.

Along with her sister, Mineas Gerais, she's quite an interesting ship though. Only Britain and America had laid down dreadnoughts before them (the namesake and the Bellerophons for the former, and the South Carolina for the latter), so they were ahead of anything nations like Germany, Italy or Japan did (although the Nassau was built quicker), and, at the time of them entering service, the most heavily armed warships ever. Not bad for Brazil. Pity the country couldn't really afford them, and had to sell their third dreadnought, which would of course go on to be the Gin Palace, HMS Agincourt.

Well, thats the Nimitz from Final Countdown. Man I haven't seen that since like 1988 on TV (TBS I think).

What I find shocking here is that this is one of the few ships I managed to identify immediately.

I knew it was Nimitz but have never seen the film!

It all looks a bit "Time Tunnel" to me.

Comments on earlier films, yes, Pearl Harbor is possibly the worst WW II movie ever made.

IMHO of course.

Dutch perhaps? I remember reading a website dedicated to Dutch submarines a while back, and they kept adding and removing their boats deck guns over the course of their service so I wouldn't be surprised if they had that combination on a boat or two at some point.

Not Dutch, but Northern Europe is definitely the place to be looking....

Spot on, although hopefully not the most challenging one you've had so far :). Very cool you've been there . If I ever make it over stateside, I'll definitely be visiting some of your excellent museum ships. It's a shame* the Iowa's came on the scene so late that they didn't get a lot of 'action' in the traditional sense, with their main armament mostly used for shore bombardment.

* Purely from an armchair general's curiousity point-of-view, obviously we want as little actual warfare going on as possible from a broader perspective.

Hahahaha! There were actually quite a few submarines with 40mm AA (but not a huge number that had a British look to them, hence the clue still being useful even if Google wasn't feeling particularly helpful :)). Here's another sub (and the next pic to guess) that shows them quite clearly :).

View attachment 153354

It looks like a Danish H class submarine to me. They were initially constructed with 2 x 40mm guns but had 1 removed in 1940. All 4 ships were scuttled in 1943 to prevent the Germans using them.

Spot on, very nice work :). That's the Havmanden as she was after completion (minus the H1 on the side of the conning tower, photoshopped out - the Kalev had her name on the side as well).

Here's a far easier one, this ship didn't survive until the end of the war, but it lasted longer than Germany did...

There are surprisingly few battleships with ABPQXY arrangement. It has the wrong masts for Rivadavia, wrong location of masts for Wyoming, and wrong location of turret P and the second funnel for Fusō, so this is either Ise or Hyūga, both were sunk in Kure by bombing in late 1945.

I'm going to assume that the previous pic is indeed an Ise class BB and post the next one.

This ship was in service throughout the HOI4 timeframe, but belongs to a class that is not well represented in the tech tree.

After much wikipedia use.. Japanese BB Ise?

edit: Poop, Emu'd :)

Right you both are, Ise it is :). Poor 'ole Ise was docked in Japan with no fuel, and had to be towed to it's final destination (where it was an AA ship until bombed and sunk).

Looks like the armoured cruiser Georgios Averof to me.

Yes it is - I was hoping it would take longer than that. Its the pre WWI Pisa class armoured cruiser Georgios Averof of the Greek navy. The crew defied orders to scuttle the ship and managed to avoid the Luftwaffe to reach Egypt. It then served convoy duty in the Indian Ocean for some time.

With 4 x 9.2" guns it almost has the firepower of a pre dreadnought battleship while being somewhat faster and slightly better armoured than some but on a smaller displacement. The Italians initially classed them as 2nd rate battleships before downgrading them to coast defence battleships. With the HOI4 naval tech tree I'm guessing it will need to be a 1922 class heavy cruiser, despite being more heavily armoured, slower and more heavily gunned, but there's no way it should be a 1922 battleship.
