I've no idea about the submarine. I'm a surface-ship guy; all subs look alike to me. (Can I say that? Is that navalist?)
That's alright. All surface ships look like targets to us Submariners so it's all good. Haha.

You guys are just too good.

Sovjet Sub C-9 Akula (Shark) 1943
Some claim this is the first Russian Submarine
Edit: I like this thread. Finally some of my picturebooks of ships pay of!
As per Bagnasco's recent Littorio bible: 42,800m for the 885kg 850mps AP shell (known as "ball" in Italian) and 44,640m for the 824kg 870mps SAP/Common shell (known as "perforating shell" in Italian). Note that the Italian battleships do not seem to have been given "true" HE shells, even the SAP can penetrate 7-8in of cemented armour and has delay fuze.
It's also noted that Italian gunnery directive allowed for opening fire at 30km in good weather, so the ranges are obviously theoretical.
You guys are just too good.

Haha, right you are, my sources says S-9, but given that C is 'S' in Cyrillic (more or less - close enough for this purpose), I suspect that's just differences in translation. Nice work, very impressive. The shot is apparently before the war (according to my source, S-9 was lost in '43) but just getting the sub is impressive enough
.
Cheers Antediluvian. And apologies to everyone for putting an incorrect range up there (although as Antediluvian says, I suspect it wouldn't be much chop for anything beyond shore bombardment at that range).
Haha, I'd have guessed an Abdiel-class even if I had no idea what it was(and without hitting Conways, it looks very British, and cruiser-like but on the small side, so without knowing the funnel configuratioon (which I definitely don't without looking it up) that'd have been my guess. I can't match jcpvdberg though, I'd have no idea which one. Also, +1 for it being Malta
.
Here's another one - I'm intentionally starting with something 'hard' (although it's hard to tell what's hard around here, and if someone's seen this recently then it'll be all over in minutes), but I have easier to identify pics if this one is a bit too obscure
. The clue is that this vessel is a CV

USS Lexington CV-2!
The HMS Welshman is a Abdiel class minelayer.
Mikuma, I believe, following the Battle of Midway.lol, three minutes, love your work.
Aye, sorry, I know you were spot on (and very impressively so). Sorry, wasn't trying to suggest you weren't.
Here's another one - I expect this'll be fairly easy, so the clue is that it's recently seen combat!

Mikuma, I believe, following the Battle of Midway.
The downside of having oxygen powered torpedoes. Mogami's Damage Control Officer ordered her torpedoes jettisoned overboard after the Mogami and Mikuma collided. Mogami was heavily damaged but survived the air attack that sank Mikuma.
Indeed its the Mikuma, you can tell an IJN vessel a mile away due to the smokestack design.
Right you both are, nice work. You're not wrong about the smokestacks, I went looking for a shot that obscured them a bit (I also found a shot of just the smokestack, lol).
Here's an oldie, well into it's lifetime by the time we hit Jan 1, 1936, but still capable of scaring nations into doing things they'd rather not....

You're spot on with the class. That's Provence, after one of her refits (so early 20s at the earliest). Unlike Bretagne, it survived Mers-el-kabir, to be scuttled at Toulon, raised by the Germans, and scuttled again.
Instead of clues for this one, you get multiple images and the knowledge it was a fairly well known vessel, hence intentionally vague pics. Here's the first
