In the last shot they're firing an airplane out of the hangar on a catapult mounted in the open side of the hangar. Gee, can't think why they quit doing that.

A Finnish sub based off the German VIIa... Forget the name though.Right you all are. I actually don't categorically know why they stopped launching aircraft off catapults out the side of a hangar, but I can't imagine it was very comfortable, and as aircraft stall speeds increased, the stress on pilot and aircraft would have only got higher, so that'd be my guess - feel free to enlighten us if details you know, Director (or anyone else)
.
The class which this next vessel was a part of played a relatively minor role in the war, but it was one step on the pathway to one of the most produced submarines of the conflict...

Are you referring to the Vetehinen class of 3 subs designed by a German company masquerading as a Dutch one to circumvent Versailles, and then constructed by the Finns? Those vessels served as a prototype for the German Type VII. The picture used appears to be the same one displayed on the Wiki page for the Vesihiisi of that class.
España-class battleship?Nice work the both of you.
It is indeed, those sneaky Germans. Worked out alright for the Finns though. They did another sub that was the prototype for the Type II coastal subs as well.
That's the one - the Type VIIC was actually the most produced type of sub by some margin, and the second-most produced class of any kind anywhere near that weight range (it was pipped by the US-built LST Mk 2s). Very nice work on the back-story about those sneaky Germans.
This next ship didn't make it to the period covered by HoI4 but its two sisters did. Of the three in the class, none of them were put out of action in direct enemy combat (or old age)...

España-class battleship?
Still don't know how they managed to fire broadsides. Elevate the guns to like 80 degrees in traverse?

But the space between the turrets and the funnel and masts looks way too small for the gun to turn to fire a broadside as seen in the picture (the 1st/A turret wasn't firing but the other 3 were all facing portside. It looks weird compared to the later battleships with all the main armament on the centreline, but this arrangement was common with most dreadnought battleships.
Can't get much past you lot. Well, not unless I do something silly and just post a picture of a set of stairs or something
. Nice work as always
. Quite an effort by the Spaniards to lose three BBs not in combat, in reflection, it was probably a good idea they went the smaller and cheaper option!
Here's another one, this vessel (in a class of it's own) looked like this by the end of HoI4, but looked somewhat different at the start....

HSwMS Gotland?
Was a Seaplane Tender, but was turned into an anti-air Cruiser.
Aye, I agree, I guess they made sure the turrets were just far enough off the centreline to allow them to swing past the funnels/masts. Not the first design I'd pick for a dreadnought!
It was indeed, nice work.
Here's a ship that by the time of this picture, had seen rather better days (and would no longer be covered by HoI4 in its current state, but would be a unit at the start of the game)

Sovjet Battleship Marat?
Italian Littorio class Battleship ? (almost said Yamato, but that would probably be too easy)I wasn't actually looking for a shot for the Marat above, but for the vessel below (but found the Marat, and thought it was worth including in the thread). The clue for this particularly class/ship is that the guns you see below had a maximum range of 46,800 yards (nearly 42.8 km), not too shabby!
