Pick the ship

Just an idea for something to do while the team has their break - I'll post a pic of a ship that served during the period covered by the game and is in the classes represented in the game, and peeps can guess what it is. You're allowed to ask yes/no questions that I'll answer. I'll also give one clue with the pic, and you only have to pick the class of ship, not the actual ship, but much cred if you can get the exact match .

And if you think this is silly and boring, ignore it and it'll go away . It's a good excuse to look at some impressive warships at the very least .

Clue: This ship had relatively small guns for a capital ship when it was launched, but there were plans to increase them to 15" guns in the future, although this never eventuated due to wartime pressures.

Edit: Changed scope to all ships that served in the period and are represented by ship types in HoI4.

It is indeed, that's the Scharnhorst not too long after construction, nice work . Perhaps I'm being a little easy? Here's another one .

This class of ship served mainly in the Pacific.

Looks like one of the Furutaka class cruiser, before being modernized, I see only 1 gun per turret. Can't see the third fore turret, it should be behind the first two, with 6 turrets housing 1 gun each in total.

Right you all are, that's the Kako, in 1930 before either the AA or main armament were modernised. Am very impressed . Here's another one - this particular ship served in the USN and RN (edit: I had Soviet Navy here as well, but that was me confusing a couple of ships I was choosing from).

Shame on you, not being able to pick individual members of a teensy-tiny class like the Wickes . That's Jacob Jones on trials in 1915, but I only know that because the picture has a caption .

Moving away from the bigger navies for a bit of local flavour....

now that you mentioned it i noticed the flag i just matched the turret layout, bridge and spotter tower to ships lines. Its definatley a Pisa class armored cruiser

That's not a bad guess, but it's not the one. Here's George Averof for good measure though, and there's definitely a strong resemblance .

And we have a winner, nice work . The clue for that ship was 'local flavour', in that it was Swedish (the flag of which, in black and white, is non-specific enough to leave in).

I'm off for a bit, so will leave a tough 'un (well, I think it's a tough 'un, but I was impressed how quick y'all got Furutaka ). The flag and designation have been smudged in photoshop (sorry it's a bit quick'n'dirty) because otherwise that'd make it anything but tough! As for the clue, this vessel had a 3.9 inch gun.

It is that, very impressive . That's the first in the class, I65 (that what was smudged on the hull, the flag was the IJN flag, as you'd expect) in 1932.

One more for the night, an easy one as long as you're not thrown by the flag . Text on hull smudged as it would give it away to anyone that could read Cyrillic.
