Okay I am glad I asked, as the answers I got were not what I expected. Some interesting ideas and concerns. I will check back here on a semi regular basis.
In the FAQ forum they have a quote from Johan where he says
"Of course there should be no absurtities, as Canada declaring war on USA or Germany allying with France."
For Canada to declare war on the US it must be a seperate country. Well one would certainly hope so, after all one does not want Ottawa determining imperial policy now, do we old man?

Keep them coming guys, I cannot comment individually but I am listening, and have noticed other Betas listening as well.
I think you can see from the screen shots that there is more kinds of troops than in EU2. I have also heard Johan quoted here as saying that there is only something like 25-30% of EU2 in HOI so you can extrapolate from that what you may about naval units and combat in general. hmm did that dance around my NDA sufficently. (just pointing out the obvious)
