Now that our Court Physician can earn the Physician trait I think that it's time that honorary title holders and Councillors should be able to earn new traits and benefits as well. The thinking is simple - if you act in a job long enough you (should) get better at it and keep those benefits even if you later lose the job.
My first thought was just honorary title holders (eg Cupbearer, Master of the Horse etc) and just a trait addition, but then I realised that even Chancellors and Stewards should get other advantages out of their job. AS an example, the Master of Horse might gain the Cavalry Leader trait, the Keeper of the Swans might get the Gardener or Poet trait, the Chancellor might gain a free Favour, the Designated Regent might gain temporary Prestige modifier etc.
Of course to balance it all out the chance to fire should be based on character skill and include the chance for a negative effect, eg the Master of Horse gets kicked by a horse in training and becomes Wounded, Keeper of Swans kills all the birds and loses Prestige, the Chancellor insults someone in conversation and gets himself into a Duel or the Designated Regent alienates his Lord and becomes a Rival.
At the very least, barring any event chains for these positions it might encourage players to accept their Lord's offer to become their Court Chaplain or whatever.
