I think the current status of things is that the person who has the map graphics computer died or something so things are waiting for that to be sorted.
But im not sure.
So things are going slow at the moment but still going.

I tried to do a wee map of the back story [up to -1 so far] as a gif. But this internet site i used, rather than having them in the order i put them in, put them by title and did that thing where 11 comes after 1 and before 2 so the last pic comes second. Borders arent perfect obviously, but its there just to give an idea of the pre-history of the backstory as someone said it difficult on just spreadsheet so heres a pic.

Anyway, here is the rise and fall of the Empire of Stars [A City-State in the Ash-years with Pre-fire weapons that established a huge empire, extracting tribute from the nomadic tribes thats lived within regions claimed by them. Relying on Slavery and fear tactics as the pre-fire technology runs out and then collapsing during the long dawn, unable to cope with changing conditions as the nomads settled and tore apart by Slave revolts and ending utterly when revolting nomads razed Star-Haven to the ground.], then the slow development of local civilisation as the climate changes and the tribes settle.
The Confederacy of the Fall Tribes, the tribes who rose against Starhaven and are the precessors to the State of Virgne.
The Empire Carolines, a successor state of Stars, where revolting nomads took command of the Imperial infrastructure and who are unique for sedimentary society having been imposed by a centralised government rather than developing naturally in a military/manorial system, which after the collapse of said central authority developed into the Serfdom equivalent which after Geremiah's Conquest spread throughout the whole of North America.
The Union of the River, a confederation of city-states along the river who formed common government for mutually protection of river trade.
Kingdom, the precursor to the New Jerusalem which was founded by the Prophet Enoch who 'guided by the lord' lead his followers to the new promised land and founded Kingdom there along with the Jerusalemite religion.
Then developing into the early universal Civilisations, with Congressional civilisation expanding through the Second Compact, bringing the Fall the other tribes of the east-coast into Congress and following the Bridges Treaty and Thrid Compact as the Congressional states, tribes and city-states formed the Congressional Alliance in opposition to the Kingdom of the New Jerusalem, the rising jerusalemite state in the south.
Ending with the invasion of Geremiah, which the gif shows earlier on as the thing that made it is wiggy but obviously comes last.

Also, the World in -200 M.D.

Probably not, the current planned titular Empires for that part of the world are New Jerusalem for a Lazarine holding Alabama and Georgia and one other King tier title and holding the right provinces. Carolines, for an ambitious Old Carolinian who holds Virgne and Georgia as well as the Carolines, and the Fall Confederation for a member of the Fall dynasty holding the king tier Skylands and Virgne.
The mod starts in 690 M.D. and Stars falls at around -620 MD so its pretty much gone and dusted.
Stars is a ancient Empire of the sort that plays the role of the villain in congressional history, what with the founding tribes and nations having their identities born in the fear or hate of them, is held as the example of what not to do, Slavery, use of old Technology, etc being taboo in Congressonal Civilisation from the legacy of the Stars. Though probably Carolines will have a Stars-based flag as the Old Carolinians see themselves as its successor as Rome saw itself Successor to Troy. Its not Rome to the French or somthing to be considered civilised and revivable, but Babylon or etc to the jew. i.e. The big bad empire who subjugated/enslaved us in pre-history and now doesnt exist and is lost and held in contempt. That sort of thing, and its far enough gone that probably by the time of the game academics would be arguing if it ever actually existed rather than politicians holding it up as an example to live up to, that role is taken by the 'United States' and the dream of Pre-Fire America put up by Geremiah.

Ulricomega is going to post them once he is able to. Its on one of the last couple of pages where he said it.

I think that is because we divided up the cultures. We each picked an area and grew a fondness for that culture. We put in less work over-all, but since each area got a good chunk of TLC from a member they all have a little extra, instead of one just being the author favorite.

Just to be clear, what diffrence will there be between "monarchical" societies and Republics and less developed "barbarians"? Ie apart from religion will republics have elections, or elective monarchy?

I know my "barbarians" are monarchies, and pretty strictly. I believe that the "Republics" are also Monarchies, just more constitutional monarchies... or they need approval from Congress. Orinsul can answer that better.

Right, so Republics are more like the Roman Republic when under a Dictator, or a Greek polis under an Archon or Tyrant.

Just to be clear, what diffrence will there be between "monarchical" societies and Republics and less developed "barbarians"? Ie apart from religion will republics have elections, or elective monarchy?

Mostly its fuedal monarchies, only not called that obviously.
The purpose of the history going back over athousand years before the mod starts is to emphasis that like the date, everything comes from Geremiah. Of the modern States [Kingdoms] only Virgne and the Carolines exist both before and at the start of the Mod. That Geremiah on conquering two warring and incompatible civilisations united them by destroying their identity and supplanting it with an ideal of the United States and a mostly fictional image of the Pre-Fire modern world. Right to Rule comes from descent from the governor that Geremiah installed, or more commonly from descent from Geremiah, or in some places, the Divine Geremiah himself. The States are pretending to be modern States or trying to follow in their footsteps, resurrect their system of government but are their own new thing, wouldnt care about the pre-historic modern states and if told about differences would see themselves as superior to them. Geremiah was ruling two systems who had nothing in common so the first thing he did was abolish them and put something entirely of his own creation, but with the name, myth and legacy of the Pre-Fire world to legitimise it.
Where its elective it comes from the vassals. Elective being the pre-Meridian system for most of the Congressional nations developed out of the Fall Tribes elective leaders, so the true ruler is the one with the support of the most or most powerful of the tribes that elected him.
The Feudalism equivalent system comes from the New Jerusalem, where the King [Emperor tier] who was a descendant of the Prophet Enoch or in the later years a 'prophet' himself or his descendants. Authority came from the King, with the 'Dukes' and etc being granted their titles and land by the King developing the land-for-service arrangement that became hereditary as crown authority weakened and then permanently so after it was extended to the second wave and congressional lords following the Conquest.

Serfdom and the entrenchment of the people to the land and the peasant rights for the Congressionals comes from the Carolines, where after the nomads took control of the falling Empire of Stars, they retained and vastly increased use of slavery with officers put in charge of districts and charged with settling them and forcing a shift to an agricultural economy. Then as that system faded with decentralisation into a manorial system where an isolated lord owned the land around and the slaves on that land and over time it became rare for slaves to be bought or sold in any number that by the time the Carolines were brought into Congressional Civilisation and the Alliance with the Thrid Compact, it meant nothing to them to accept the congressional ban on slavery as it de facto no longer existed with the former slave having already grown out of that word with the majority of his time working his own or the community land rather than that of his lord. Then after joining Congress the system slowly spread into throughout the Alliance as the 'backwards' tribes took it up as they settled and it was seen as a compromise between the various reformers in the chaotic economies of the north-east where each valley had its own system of doing basically everything so that by the time the mod starts some thousand years later its the universal system and about the only anyone can imagine there being.

The Presidential Elective system comes form a coup carried out in the second Meridian generation where the Congressional Governors in the Union elected the son one of Geremiah's daughters in the place of his Nephew, Lazarus I who was a Jerusalemite zealot who they feared would subvert the Union under Alabama and see the New Jerusalem reborn, so pre-empted his coronation with the election of Allender I Phoenix the young Governor of Ohio, starting the Lazarine Wars and setting in place the Elective system in which the States of the Union elected from the Phoenix Line the new President. With the title generally alternating between the Governors of Ohio and Virgne.
The Union is locked in Feudal Elective with auxiliary events to guide it so as long as there live in the world characters with the Phoenix or Firehawk traits [Sayyid and Mirza] no one who isnt one can be considered the legitimate President, and so gains maluses and has CBs and Plots against him by anyone who is one. Combined with a system where the two traditional electors, the Governors [King] of Ohio and Virgne if they exist and Congress, get events to confirm or deny the election of any President, and if either fail him he again loses legitimacy and gets modifiers and CBs against him by the side that say no or from anyone if Congress says no to him.

City governments will be Open Elective as in CK2, mostly being county level with the noteable exception of New Orleans being a mercantile king tier state with baronies scattered through the islands and gulf and a rivalry with a south american republic of the same qualities. If possible Temple governments will be catholic succession but im not sure how moddable that is.
The Thrid Wave states will be Turkish Succession but with pressure to change.

And thats the Congressionals.

The Barbarians will be varied, being lots of little groups the only thing they have in common being that Civilisation [Democratics and Catholics] dont take them seriously or consider them as worth worrying about. The mark of this period in history being the conflict between the two great civilisations.
The Plains governments will be Turkish succession with strongest son takes all, the Atlantics are a mix of independent counties all gravelkind and all at war with each other, Im not sure about the Hurrics as theyre Mr. Capitolists thing but id assume theyre gravelkind. The Caribbeans will probably be gravelkind as they might have SoI multiple wives do thatd make it interesting, or else feudal elective, either way they wont have primo and might not even be allowed to switch to it, as they are a newly born nobility fresh from a revolutionary against a mercantile establishment so wont be strong in the authority of hereditary rulers department.

Im hoping to extend the role of Religious Heads, in the AGOT mod theres an event where a liege can order a vassal to stop fighting another vassals and im considering looking at that to allow someone in a defensive war to petition the Speaker to mediate to end the conflict, possibly replacing Excommunicate with that, so rather than ask the 'Pope' to excommunicate a character for no reason you can ask him to order a war against you to be stopped and if the aggressor refuses then he gets excommunicated. So as to make fighting other Congressionals during an Illumination [Crusade] a risky thing to try unless youre on good terms with the Speaker.
And give Dukes plots to get the Speaker to condemn their lord, allowing them to follow up with a plot to usurp the king tier and that sort of thing, especially for inside the Union to keep it caught up in its own politics rather than out conquering everyone else.

The chief difference between the civilised and the barbarians, is that the civilised are part of an international community while barbarians are on their own. But in game mechanics terms youre quite limited in what you can do with that, but small religion groups make it so AI marriage choices are limited, not many people will be on hand to come to your defense in holy wars, etc.
Barbarians are local societies, while the Civilisations are universal. So the Civilisation has Crusades and holy-wars and etc as theyre society is advanced and right and free, so they have a duty to extend it, to liberate and enlighten. While the Barbarians live the way they do because its how they live and dont really mind what foreigners do as long as they dont do it to them. Civilisations are nations which are in communion with each other, despite having different political leaders they share common heritage, interests, beliefs, laws, morality, etc. While Barbarians have little to nothing in common with anyone outside their political entity.
Those sort of things. But mostly the difference is just in how the Congressionals, Provisionals, Crusaders and Latins see them. As theyre the big players, the Universal Civilisations and the mod is told from their perspectives.

As for the semantics. King and Republic dont mean what they do in CK2 or modern terms. Kingdom is a duchy in southern Alabama where the fundamentalist Jerusalemite religion was founded. King was the title of the ruler of the emperor tier [Titular in the game] Kingdom of the New Jerusalem which ceased to exist in -1 M.D. and the Phoenix King was one of the titles of Geremiah before the Conquest and will probably be an honorific title that the President of the Union can give out. [Like Caesar in the ERE in CK2] But mostly King will have negative connotations for all bar Lazarines in north america. So even if they got history books about the monarchies of the pre-fire world though their governments match the description they wouldnt make the connection. Like when Rome cheered for hereditary emperors but hated the very idea of Kings.
CK2 Republics wont be called republics, the names not settled yet but something like Company, Corporate, Exectivate Magistratory or something like that as they represent governments ruled by merchants.
King tier titles in the Congressional world will be variations on Governor and ruling States, the name coming from Geremiah's fabrications. The last title with Pre-Meridian titles being the Union of the River which was dissolved during the Thrid Wave but is titulary reformable and a couple characters will start with claims on it.

Dynasties will probably work as in CK2, but Matrilinial Marriages might be disabled except for lowborn men.

If this post makes any sense at all as its very rambly but anyway, there you go.
