Petitioning Johan on Victoria 1.04

Saying the petition was in vain is being a bit pessimistic, IMHO. Paradox got a nice reminder that there are people out there playing Victoria and that are hoping for a new patch. Not long after the petition got running, Johan posted here asking for some specific feedback on some issues.

However, as I think most of us realize, Victoria isn't Paradox' top priority, so things will take some time. I am however opisitimistic that the community isn't waiting in vain.

I have to back you up on the point that this petition had nothing to do with getting the patch soon and it had everything to do with getting the patch started. In this we were successful

There will be a 1.04. But what we need to realize (if we haven't already) is that Victoria is far from being Paradox' top priority and that work on Victoria is done when other work allows it (Diplomacy comes to mind).

However, as OHgamer has said in several threads in these forums, work is being done on 1.04, but with the most of the bugs fixed, it comes down to game balance and tweaks, and those require a lot of playtesting and a lot of know-how to be done correctly.

I'm guessing that most agree with me when I say the people here are looking for a 1.04 done right, not just for a 1.04.

We are the opposite to the people who play HoI2 1.2 which is fine to play in all honesty, but for the sake of nothing else to do, just heckle and demand for 1.3 to be released.
That said, the new HoI2 patch looks likely to improve AI which sounds good.

What I am saying is, Victoria 1.03(c) is very playable. There is an obvious need for a patch, but its not as if we are stuck without it. The day it comes out shall be a great day (hopefully).

Hogwash. HoI2 1.2 is anything but "fine" to play. Only the diehard core of fans find it such. I've shelved the game until such time it's many issues, AI being the foremost, gets properly adressed. Anyway, HoI2 probably sold a gazillion more copies than Victoria and it's only right and proper it receive more TLC from the Paradox team. Even so, most of the work done on HoI2 1.3 is by far done by non-Paradox employees.

i think you should leave these guys alone... they have alot of work to do and i'd rather a well constructed patch then some rushed patch that causes more problems then fixes.
THE PATCH WILL BE DONE WHEN ITS DONE!!!! at least they are gonna release another patch, other companies release one patch that fixes only the biggest problems (like ctd on common things) and leave the game alone.
get some patience, good things take time.

also the ai in hoi2 may never be to the standard you want it to be, imagine how many variables it has to factor into the game, if something minor was to change the ai has to change to adapt with it, it would take years to factor every single variable into every nations file to make sure it acts challenging.
i think instead of attacking them over the fact that they didn't finish the patch in a week and appriciate the fact that they are still making quality games (not like aoe3 )

Yeah, I agree 100%. If folks will allow me to indluge in some pessemism and speculate that Vic. won't have a sequel, and note that without this petition we probably would not have gotten a new patch, I'm very grateful that we got anything.

Hmm, in my opinion, whether or not they make a new patch for Victoria is entirely their business, but whether or not I buy another Paradox game is my business.

Have they ever said they make games perfect? Otherwise who are you comparing Paradox with?

I doubt that Paradox have been working for the last year on the patch. I'd say they have been waiting and listening to our views since the last patch was released, gathering information, and are currently in the process of making a new patch.

Well, you buy a game, you ultimately are buying the game in the box, and anything else you get is basically a gift.

I don't play HoI, do you mean HoI one only ever made it to v. 1.2? If that is the case, having a sequel out, I doubt it will be updated any further. And on the off chance that it would be, that would be very magnanimous on their part.

A long time ago was that word was the company considered the game "finished", that we are getting another patch at this point is in itself a favor.

EXACTLY!!! I started this petition with the full knowledge that a patch was a remote(if non-existent) possibility. I don't think people quite understood that Vickie was basically written off by Paradox not too long ago.

Well, you are right, but some of us just are somewhat disappointed about the way paradox is handling it´s games recently.
Remembering how they used to care for Europa Universalis (1 & 2), there is unfortunately some kind of descent in that matter.
Of course you buy the game as it is, but in Victoria´s case that (Version 1.0) definitely wasn´t worth the 50 €uro I had to pay for it.
Don´t get me wrong, the game is great fun now and the recent version is pretty good.
We, who are complaining like the game as much as you, otherwise there wouldn´t be any need to hang around here at all.
But there are still some known (!) issues, especially one certain multiplayer crashbug (and it is known at what condition it occurs, so it shouldn´t be impossible to eliminate), that need a fix.
Some tweaks to the game balance would be nice, too, but I agree that that would only be a bonus, as game balance in 1.03c is pretty much alright.
That we now have a 1+ year waiting time for a small patch for Victoria, a game, which has merely 2 years since it´s release, is not that customer-friendly style of paradox that we used to know.

That´s pretty much the reason why I didn´t buy Crusader Kings or HOI2, and why I won´t buy Diplomacy, too.
Well, I actually bought Crusader Kings recently as it got it´s price reduced to 10 €, but I doubt that paradox gets much benefit of these special offers.
