And as for the art, I would like to point out to the OP that it looks very much like a re-interpretation of Ilya Repin's Reply of the Zaporozian Cossacks to Sultan Mehmed IV of the Ottoman Empire, which is a nicely incorporated art historical reference.

As for a break from the 'X of Y ' patterning in expansion names, I welcome it warmly. It makes quite the difference from a form that has been over-popularised and spread by fantasy literature, fan fiction, and whatnot. There is an anecdote of Salman Rushdie ditching his planned title Children of Midnight immediately when realising that Midnight's Children would be vastly less clichéic.
The Cossacks is also a novel by Leo Tolstoy, of War and Peace fame. All the prior expansions have been also named after a work of literature.

In case anyone was interested, I went digging to satisfy my own curiosity. Can't find anything for Conquest of Paradise but I've got something for each of the others.

Wealth of Nations - A book by Adam Smith
Res Publica - Closest I can get is De re publica by Cicero
Art of War - Sun Tzu
El Dorado - Several but here's the poem by Poe, which is the earliest listed in Wikipedia
Common Sense - Pamphlet by Thomas Paine
The Cossacks - As mentioned above, a book by Leo Tolstoy

Pretty sure "The Cossacks" is two words.
Huh I guess I subconsciously omitted the 'the'. Still the shortest in syllables, but I don't know really why I'm trying to find a way that it breaks the pattern. Its fine as a name.

Vaxzimillian's point about the Tolstoy novel is a good one. No one can argue now that there isn't at least ANY sensical pattern to the title.

I find it very hard to believe they named it after a short story by Tolstoy little known to Westerners when the others were named after ground-breaking military, economic and political treatises.

I still think "War and Peace" would be a better name.

It is a well known literary reference and covers the main points of the expansion in both the name and the actual story, particularly Estates which seems to dominant new feature. The Issue with "The Cossacks" is that the expansion is about more than just that particular group, I don't think it really appropriated covers the content, however cool it sounds.

"The Art of War" is also a book by Machiavelli (worth mentioning since AoW isn't exactly a china expansion).

I think it breaks the pattern in so far that all other names seem to have quite an epic, universal scale. "The Cossacks" makes it seem like it's a regional expansion about a minor steppe people.

Conquest of Paradise, Res Publica, El Dorado and The Cossacks are not named after books. The idea that all expansions are named after books has never actually been true.

I don't really like the title, I was surprised when it came out with the name it did but we don't know everything yet and tbh its only a name, call it Wizzy World if you like but to me its the features that matter, the title doesn't make much difference.

The namn "The Cossacks" fits with all fetures with maybe the exception of native policies and tengri faith.

The name "The Cossacks" could be a tribute to the video game "Cossacks" set in the same time period as Europa Universalis.
