The reason I asked is because, my first reaction when I saw this thread was, who the hell would want to put a stupid name on a bomb that has the potential to kill 100k people in one foul swoop.
This then led to me reflecting on how my attitude had changed, to death and destruction, over the years and this is probably the first time I have noticed that change.
To be self-critical in 1982 I was 18, when my unit came back from the Falklands war everyone had T shirts printed up with 'Prox F**k's Argies' plastered across the front. This refers to the proximity fuze that was a very effective anti personnel munition countering the effect of the soft ground in the Falklands.
Everyone went strutting around Plymouth City in them, being patted on the back and bought drinks by the locals.
Then in 1984 I bought a T shirt while on a training exercise in Canada, from a gun shop, with the slogan 'Kill a Commie for Mommy' plastered in big letters across the front and proudly wore it occasionally for the next 2 years.
So clearly some time between then and now my attitude has changed.
I haven't really been aware of that change. I'm not sure if it has crept up on me slowly, or some event has occurred, or simply because its an ageing possess?
I do know that I don't look back at my decision to wear those T Shirts with pride. I look back and think what a stupid naïve idiot I was!
I have taken the time to write this short narrative because I think putting a stupid name on a terror weapon that has the potential to kill thousands of people, even in a video game, is a very bad idea, and I think that as you guys grow older there is a fair chance you might look back and think what a stupid naïve idiot I was.
