Honestly, as much as I want this, the changes need only be minor. Anything to keep Ming both interesting to play and tame during the game would be welcome. Japan needs to be subject to samurai shenanigans. India and Indochina are pretty much fine as is, but would be better if they didn't have to worry about China eating up the continent.

Other than that, the only REAL thing that needs to be done is modding to add 50+ nations in North America, Western South America and Western Africa. That all CAN be done and HAS been done in mods. In fact, I think most of the taming of Ming and Samurai-ing of Japan could be accomplished quite easily through modding.

One thing that needs to NOT happen though, given the new dynasty system, is China shouldn't be allowed to marry outside of China, but still needs a dynasty (for succession purposes). Not only historical, but would keep the game blob-free. This might be possible by adopting the tribal succession crisis system achieved from HTTT, but making it less...intense...

Although I would love this, I would rather have a separate, EU-ish game focused on Asia. It would probably need to focus either on China or Japan though, and would probably need to focus on a specific historical period.

I really, really want a modern Genghis Khan strategy game though. (Begin a slave, rule the world! Isn't that what these games are about?)

id like the hordes to shatter, conquer half the world and then thered be a dozen or so potential mongolic nations that could turn up anyway in the world for the division of a horde, if one conquered all of europe then it breaks into five peices or something.and seeing an offical go and the sort of this dei grata [the one that was the catholic mod ages back] does would be good too. An expansion that expands on Asia and on Christianity, maybe all religions too. but itd be a hell of a lot of work, and theirve got to work hard on Victoria the second and a dozen or so glorious expansion for that too, and CK2 as well to boot so lets not keep them too busy

I'm all for more expansions. EU3 is the game I've spent more time on than anythign else in recent years. Haven't played a game so much since I first played Tiberian Sun, and I still haven't got tired of EU3.

Should be in the distant future though. Q3 or Q4 next year, perhaps. Work all the kinks out of this level. Add some small stuff, improve a bit... Then release a good expansion focusing on the non-European world, and the religions, Chiristian, Muslim and all the others.

Of course, I'm putting all my attention on Vicky 2 when that comes out, and I hope Paradox does the same. Get that up to scratch with patches and the expansions it will require.

I'd also like to see some more work done on Rome and HoI3. HoI3 seems a bit empty at the moment.

The nation I played most, more than even Burgundy, Teutonic Knights or Knights is Japan... . The next expansion doesn't have to be Asiacentric but a few more events, laws etc for China, Asia, India wouldn't hurt now would they? Nor would they be an immense work.

That, the Knightly Orders and more expansions for EU:R are my priority/preference.

Well to show the other side of the coin, the reason I didn't get HttT is that it offered nothing to fix the glaring errors outside of Europe.

But as far as fixing East Asia, there is nothing that can be done that is both game improving and realistic unless you fix the map. The map is at the core of all the problems in East Asia. Just look at all the mods out there - every single one of them fails to make East Asia both interesting and realistic because none of them fixed the map. The entire area is simply over-aggregated. You have Annam with only three provines when it had a physical area and population base (circa 1400) greater than Belgium and Holland. COMBINED. Belgium and Holland have 14 provinces in vanilla, and up to 20 or so in some of the mods. The game as setup currently makes countries like Korea and Annam so badly nerfed that no wonder Ming steam rolls over them. With those countries at about 1/4th their actual size it takes 1/4th the stability and badboy hit to conquer them. So then Ming gets nerfed, so badly in the case of some mods that they have Ming relegated to a 1 ship navy size. Does this succeed in constraing Ming? Sure. Is it even close to realistic? No. Is it good game design? No, since it doesn't give the player even a fraction of what the actual strategic choices were.

To fix the map you need to approximately triple the number of provinces in East Asia. In general there ought to be a roughly linear relationship between # of provinces and GDP output of countries - the failure to accomplish this is what causes problems outside of Europe. If there were to be an expansion that would accomplish that, yeah I'd buy it. If all the expansion did was to raise de facto revolt risk and thus engage the player in 400 years of rebel chasing, then no I wouldn't - I've seen that movie a dozen times already via the mods and it's not a good show.

I agree with that.

Never stayed at Eu2 long enough to try that out. How was it worse than vanilla?

I had to study korean culture for around a year and a half at university and it was pretty enlightening and would love to see some familiar dynasties and events in the region if not more.

If you want to play only as Korea, China or Japan then it's probably better than EU2 vanilla. But otherwise EU2 with mods supports your Asian needs better. Asian Chapters was version which was made to Asian markets by a local distributor. It adds more provinces and events to Asia and stuff like Asian music etc. But while EU2 got patched for years AC never got patched, so it's buggy compared to vanilla EU2. Many EU2 fans think that it was an half-hearted attempt.

If you want to give it a go, it's in the Gamer's Gate.

I can't really wrap my head around the arguments people are making. We've had three expansions that are focused almost entirely on Europe, and now Gorgo Primus is asking for one to fix the world's largest and most populous continent. But no, apparently that's not good enough reason on its own, we have to give Europe even MORE features to justify another expansion.

I told you the name in another thread... maybe it was good.
I don't think that he's talking about actual GDP in those periods, but the simple fact that more provinces in a certain area mean a bigger GDP in the total area, i.e. a bigger economy, and thereby making a certain area stronger, economically.

The problem is that changes to the history files are not worth an expansion. The game needs to be fundamentally changed to justify an expansion, and such a change would necessarily affect Europe as well.

This sounds more like a 'need new scenario' issue. Slightly offtopic... not sure if I had ever played an asian country in EU series. Closest to asian were my Ottoman or Russia games.

EU3 feels done for me. Not sure there is much left to add. Maaaybe it might be interesting to work some more on vassals, viceroyalties and stuff, but it might turn to worse instead of better as overcomplicating.

Edit: The game is called Europa Universalis, IMO, there are far too many provinces outside of Europe. But this is a matter where there will never ever be a common view.

The one thing that does need fixing in Asia is China and Japan and their war in HOI3.

Why would a change to the rest of the world HAVE to directly affect Europe?

And nobody here has said that we only wanted changes to the history files.

You are making a strawman argument, and it really shows how weak your positions are.

Its a game about Europe, how Europe affected world and how world affected Europe. IMO, the slightly gamebreaking part is that countries like China and Japan function the same way as Castille or England. IMO, far east should be kinda like PTY. Trade value, economy, but unconquerable provinces and unable to colonize or expand in a gross ahistorical manner.
