If I set an event to Persistent, how often will it fire?

If it's a non random event, depending on certain conditions (not triggered by previous events), will it fire all the time? Absurd.
There must be some sort of delaying mechanism involved, I hope.

In particular, I'm intending to make "Sue for peace with the Germans" (the one setting off the "Bitter Peace" event chain) into a persistent event.

Thanks, then I take it some time will elapse before the event might trigger again...

The trigger conditions will only be evaluated once...

...yet does this mean that "Sue for peace with the Germans" might get re-triggered even if the USSR manages to reoccupy Magnitigorsk, Baku and Moscow?

"The trigger conditions will only be evaluated once"
mean, that the engine will only once try to trigger the event, it won't be triggered again by the engine. You'll need an explicit call for that event to occur again.

So I see.

Hm.

Maybe I'll just eradicate the action_b instead. You see, Ilkhold, oh great creator of the Event Editor ;), I've designed eight seperate "Sue for peace..." events with corresponding chains in addition to having modified the two original ones.
That's 24 new events, plus maybe 1 or 2 coming up, so I'm not sure I want to expand the effort even further.

Yet still, what kind of "specific call" are we looking at? Is it another event or something you can't design yourself?

Well, one persistent event happens only once. If you want to make it happen more times you have to trigger it each time by another event. So if you want something to occur 24 times you'll need at least 24 events. Persistent or not.
Best is to think of persistent events as one never intended to be triggered otherwise as by other events.
