Hello forum

I am currently playing as Aragon & I am trying to form Spain militarily - i.e. to satisfies all the triggers that allow me to enact this decision. My problem is that for last fifty years Castile has been allied with France (the major military land power in Europe). Note: I am also allied to France.

Question: is Castile's alliance essentially locked for the entire game or will their respective relations change due to different circumstances in Europe sometime in the distant future? And as a corollary, how can I predict this? Secondly, how can I go about sabotaging their relations, if at all possible? It seems the only workaround is to join France's wars and then simultaneously declare on Castile because being an allied partner to France precludes them from meeting a call to arms for Castile since France and Aragon, in this instance, would be war partners thereby creating a negative modifier for Castile. Is this the only solution to my dilemma? Any & all advice appreciated.

There is a chance it could break in the future, but it really depends on what ends up happening in your game. It's not unreasonable that they'd break their alliance and go to war over junk in India, but I don't know if Castile goes there really.

And as a corollary, how can I predict this?

When one of them has a province on the Indian coast and the other takes the 'Establish a Presence in India' mission.

Secondly, how can I go about sabotaging their relations, if at all possible?

Espionage Ideas. It's generally not worth it though.

Pretty much this is your answer. Just declare some phony war on someone you don't care about, call France in, then declare on Castile when France has joined your war. France can't defend Castile then, so their alliance breaks.

The only quick solution is for you to declare on someone else and have France on your side; then declare war on Castile and defeat them quickly before France peace’s out of the fake war and instantly joins the war against you (another 1.8 idiocy).

There's also the option of DoWing some other ally of Castille's and not declaring Castille a cobelligerent. They won't be able to call in France in turn, just the war leader's own allies. However, if you win you will not get as much out of the peace deal (half the warscore equivalent) and will be making unjustified demands rather than taking 0 diplo point claims.

But you can get an annull, and spain may decide to replace that relation with someone else, and when the treaty wears off they won't want to re-ally because they have different great power allies.
