I have a 2470 game and I started getting lag so bad that the Windows “thinking” circle would show up. Medium 600 star galaxy. No hyperlanes, no wormholes. L-gate was opened.

I7-7700K 32gb of 3200 speed ram, 1080Ti, 1 TB SDD.

I'm not asuming anything, my gameplay is choppy af, tons of posts here and on reddit bashing the performance and brain dead AI, videos on youtube, and few people with apparently all PDX games in their collection are "stutter free" and "saying it is not"
.
If You bother to look few pages back I've already debunked one cocky "stutter free player", I call BS again, unless you actually show your smooth gameplay past 2350+ which I'm sure You won't. The reason I'm bothering with people like You is that the devs take these posts as true and then write the sentences like "We've put in a speculative fix for performance issues some are experiencing", while the game is slugfest and in the worst state that it ever was.

YOUR gameplay.

Fine.

But YOUR gameplay does not necesate MY gameplay.

When I and others tell you: WE don't have the issue you have, and you then start telling us we are lying or fabricating stuff, you are comming off as.... Honestly there is no polite word to use for it.

The fact that you cannot accept that other people have different experiences than you and you start verbally acusing them of lying or worse means that people start wondering why you even want to discuss it in a thread, since you aren't actually listening to what people are stating. Even worse, ignoring details make it harder to track down the fault if you start making up stuff like you are doing by your asumptions about other people not being able to experience what they are in fact telling you they experience.

You are behaving extremely closeminded in this regard by outright refusing to acknowledge that other people can have different experiences than you.

I play the game at max speed. I get 0 stutter or lag.

I have no idea what people are talking about.

Processor: Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-7700 CPU @ 3.60GHz (8 CPUs), ~3.6GHz
Memory: 16384MB RAM
NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1060 3GB
Manufacturer: NVIDIA
Chip type: GeForce GTX 1060 3GB

So when you say "EVERYONE HAS THIS PROBLEM OMG OMG OMG!" I'm telling you no, not everyone has the problem. When I tell you the devs are trying to figure it out because not everyone has the problem and every time you say "omg game is unplayable!" they run the game just fine on their systems.

I promise they didn't ship a broken game on purpose. I promise plenty of people are playing the game without stutter or lag. It runs without the slightest stutter or hiccup for me. I literally play 150 years in like 2 hours, get bored, exit the game.

Oh, and before you're like "well you're running it on an awesome box and dedicating everything to it!", no, I'm not. I run it in a window that takes up about 1/3 of the screen. The other two windows are facebook and Netflix. I'm currently binge-watching Vikings while playing. Since 2.2 came out I've watched 4 seasons.

27" monitors are great. How I ever lived with a smaller monitor I'll never understand. It kills me only having a 21" at work. I think I'm going to buy a 27" one for my office at work.

The lags aren't from the beginning. I also can play the first 150-200 years on fastest and have no problems. But then it becomes slower and slower and at a certain point it's just a slide show.

I'm 2447 and it's currently slow. Playable, but... slow. And getting to 2500 will take a significant amount of time. It DOES seem that it's better for a short time after loading up the game, though.

I also get occasional freezes when things happen, for the duration of a few seconds. I actually had to turn assimilation off (Decided not to go full synth, had more fun with half-breeds), because it would take a good minute doing the assimilation chance stuff at the beginning of the year once I integrated a subject.

Yeah, the freezes get worse over the time. The first ones were also just a few seconds, but in my current game around 2500 it freezes every 3-4 month for around 30 secs up to a minute. I just stopped the game because it's unplayable. Also the menus react very slow if you don't pause the game.

Great! Can You whip out your phone and record moving around the Galaxy view past 2350 on different speed, unpaused?

I think we are closer to the solution here, apparently the more PDX games you buy, the less late game lag you have.

...

And you know what? I am on an

i7 7700K which is faster than yours
on 16GB@3200MHZ of Ram and
with GTX 1080 which is faster than yours but

the game ist stuttering in the lategame and the microlags are there from the beginning. As you see it doesnt matter what rig you are running. My rig is well configured and runs every other game at a very good performance but stellaris simply runs like dogs#*t. It is as it is...

And since some complaining threads are closed here i finally reviewed megacorp negative at steam. The first time i did that for a paradox product. Its just a big disappointment.

A bit on the low end it seems, but I could play the game just fine for the first 200 years, when it started to slow down significantly. By then there was so much going on that it was still playable for me. Now the game grinds to a halt at around 2300.

Yeah, got to chime in as someone who is also having performance issues of the likes there have never been before.

The game starts out just fine - no lag, no stutter, everything's running silky smooth - as expected when there is little of anything on the map, I imagine.

My game is currently approaching year 2400 (800 systems map) and it has been becoming increasingly painful to play. On normal speed, days still progress at roughly 1 day per second, but there are micro-freezes happening every 5-6 days or so (only a split second or so, but it's annoying as all hell - and forget about space combat looking good), menus respond with considerable input lag and panning the map on galaxy view makes the game stutter like hell. Once every month or two the game freezes up for ~ 5 seconds before moving on.

Note that I am playing a multiplayer game with my friend, and he is experiencing the same issues (we both tried hosting the save, makes no difference to the performance). We had to stop playing last night because it frankly became too frustrating to deal with, and that's with neither of us being involved in any wars at the moment, where we were basically both sitting in place, trying to pan the map as little as possible and just building stuff up while cursing at slow-to-respond menus.

I dread to imagine how that game is going to look 50 years down the road, much less having to manage fleets and invasions and what not with the horrible stutters and micro-freezes and menu lag. We tried both the current patch and the beta patch, which made not a lick of difference for either of us. Something is obviously very, very wonky here as the game becomes increasingly unplayable past the early midgame, and that's on an 800-size map!

This is pretty much my experience exactly. I've been trying to find ways of improving it on my end, from different refresh rates, driver settings, etc. Nothing as far as I can tell. Last time the game was performing this badly it was with Distant Stars initial update before they hotfixed an issue, but this is quite a bit worse in fact. going into the late 2400s the game is a slideshow simulator.

I'm throwing in the towel and putting the game down for a while now. This is incredibly disappointing, and I've lost my patience.

I would actually be curious to see if anyone can actually demonstrate they do NOT have day one stuttering with a simple YouTube video or other recording.

It's fairly simple to check, you just start up a new game, go to the galaxy map, unpause, and kick up the game speed to fastest while panning your camera around. If it's totally smooth and not stuttering around with the daily ticks then you don't have it. I'm not saying there isn't anyone who doesn't have it, but I have a sneaking suspicion the people saying they don't suffer from it just have problems running the game smoothly in general, so they don't actually notice a difference.

If the people who don't have the issue could tell us what galaxy generation settings and pc components they use, we might be able to try to figure out what's going on with it, if it's not universal.

I just have a laptop, but I can play the first 200 years on a 1.000 galaxy without that much problem (it start to slowdown around 2300, but is okish). Then the war of heaven starts and obliterates the performance. Some daily ticks needs a couple of seconds and from time to time on the monthly tick will freeze the game one minute. Still I want to finish both wars to check if the performance improves, but after finishing one of the fallen empires faction the performance did not improved at all :(. So slow to try further.

But seriously, they have changed the tile system because it can drain the performance, but now, in that game, I have like 5000 pops, with their own calculations even if now is "simpler" for calculations than the tile system.

edit: BTW, on earlier versions war of the heaven also destroyed the performance, at least for me
