make game less click fest
if you still think stellaris is a clickfest then i don't know what you expect from a game. all non-vr games are played by pressing buttons.*

*obvious exceptions are games you play with a controller where you can use a joystick

Actually I don't think so, since the game I am currently running no L-Gates spawned and I'm still having the issue. Truth be told, I have never had an L-gate spawn in a game despite owning the DLC. Kind of disappointing to be honest
Check that you really have the DLC enabled in Stellaris Launcher maybe its disabled there. Somehow I got L-Gates in every game.

Can confirm definitely not L-Gate exclusive (which is not to say they can't be a contributing factor). I don't have the story pack and I still have this problem.

EDIT:

I should really get that story pack... As soon as the game is playable again I'll do so.

I played a larger as well, and again, the issue did not start until 2400, please check back here and let me know if you still are having no issues when you hit that marker. If it is my system I would like a way to fix ithe issue myself

Alright. I am at 2302 without any stuttering yet, it might be awhile but I will let you know what happens during 2400+

I'm playing on a 10,000 star galaxy with 51 empires, x5 primitive, x5 habitable, 9 marauders and 7 fallen empires, with the graphics on max settings and I have no stutter so far in 2267. I'm thinking this is system specific.

Sure you do mate. That's just load of bollocks right here.

To put that in perspective, I've just tested MegaCorp with beta 2.2.2 which supposed to improve the performance a little, 600 star galaxy (!), around 8 empires, 3 FE, 0.25xHabitable and 3 marauders, and I'm getting crazy stutter just 50 years in on fastest. It's present on normal as well. The performance is clearly ruined since last patch, which is funny when you put that in to the perspective of Paradox PR happily telling people on the FB group that the performance will be better with Le Guin. I actuall feel cheated and basically wasted money on a product that is barely working.

You state that you don't have stutters on a laptop rig with gimped i7 processor @ 2.8Ghz, while I stutter like crazy with desktop i7 @ 4.8Ghz, 16 GB of RAM and overclocked GTX 1080? Either you are plainly lying or just don't understand what is the stutter everyone is complaining about. And before you go about "system specifics" I don't have any problem with any other game, even heavily moded Rimworld, PUBG, EU4.

Regarding Megacorp honestly I felt scammed.

The issue isn't with the DLC though, you get this issue with the update to the base game not the DLC, to be honest I can't even really decide on if I like the DLC or not due to the performance issue. As I told this poster before the issue doesn't happen until around 2400. No system I've tried (One top spec, one median, and one minimum req) seems to have issues until this point, they said they would get back once they hit that point on their game. No need to call anyone a liar until they actually hit the point where there is a problem.

the more i hear from people the more i think it's trade related. trade may be polling for routes more often than should. also the coverage of starbases might also be polling too much since they overlap...

if anyone who's having this issue could force spawn only hiveminds and be one themselves and see if the problem persists that would be amazing.

What is your rig?

I'm wondering if I will run into this issue.

Mine is:

GeForce GTX 1060

Intel Core i7-7700HQ @ 2.80GHz

15.89 GB RAM

1920 x 1080 60Hz

350GB SSD storage

I'm running a similar rig (just installed a GTX 1060 6GB, previously a GTX650 2GB) but on Linux with a i7-4770S, and I'm noticing the game slowing to a crawl too (still on my first 2.2 game, mid 2300s). EDIT: and I'm on just the base game update, no DLC (I'll wait for a Steam sale LOL).

This post is mainly about game performance. Before the patch, I had no problems with the game, being able to play on the largest galaxy maps with full empires and only experienceing slight hiccups when large fleet actions were involved.

But now, consistantly starting at year 2400, the game starts to slow down. The delay is small at start, but consistantly happening as each day passes, regardless of game speed. But, it grows rapidly, to the point thst, in the current game I am playing it is 2480 and it is taking about 5 seconds for each day to pass, at the fastest setting, I'm starting to fear that I am facing the video game equivalent of one of Zeno's paradoxes (sorry, I couldn't resist). As it stands now to complete a standard game with the default settings, the last 20 years are going to take about 10 hours to get through, and that, in my definition, is unplayable.

While I have your attention, there are two other game-breaking issues. The first is with the Galactic Market, there is an easy and obvious bug that if you sell the max amount of a resources, you can immediately buy it back for much les than you paid for it, when you do this, you can immediatly sell it again for a max adjusted amount. you repeat this a couple of times and you can constantly stay at max energy credits, buying any resources you need, and rendering the games actual economy irrelevant.

The final issue is about the games win conditions. I love the transparency of the new point system, and the ability to check how you are doing compared to the other empires. The problem is you have included any fallen empires that spawn in the leaderboard. They have such a huge tech and economy advantage that it is impossible to beat them if they stay dormant on the standard, much less if they awaken. SInce the FE's are more of an obsticle than an opponent (since you can't spawn in a game as one), they really should be removed as a viable opponent, otherwise, more so than the endgame crisis, you will have players building solely to fight fallen empires, as opposed to coming up with various strategies to play the game.

Thank you for your time.

1.) Agreed. I'm currently in the year 2470 and I have stopped playing until this is fixed.

2.) This one should be fixed in the current beta.

3.) It's not as bad as you might think. You can gain a lot of points by destroying crisis ships. You can't win by points as long as the crisis is still going on which gives you plenty of time to catch up to them while their overall power will eventually weaken from decadence. Beating Fallen Empires by points should definitely stay in, as this is what will prove that your empire has surpassed them. They are the last obstacle.

Same problem here, after 2450 or something like that it takes up to 10 secs for just one day
Playing is impossible, too bad. And I even bought utopia dlc, damn :(
I don't think it's the pc, it's decent (4790k, gtx 1060 6gb, 8gb Ram, Win 10 64, with ssd) and i don't have problems with other games or apps.

I remember I played for Stellaris for the first time, the base game no DLCs, something like a year-year and a half ago (don't remember the build) and it was perfect, even with 1000 planets and max AI enemies, from start to finish. It was the same PC (except the video card was a gtx 760, but I am quite sure the upgrade is not the problem).

Well, did a few tests to see what it isn't. I thought that maybe because the issue consistantly happens at 2400, it might be whatever code triggers the endgame crisis since that is the default start date, so I ran a game and set the crisis as early as possible, and performance held steady, so that wasn't it. Tried it with the L-Gates (turns out I had turned off teh DLC because it was recommended that I get my feet under me as far as knowing the game before I enabled them). forced the tech to open them, and still no performance drop. I'm going to artficially advancing the galaxy age with minimal empires to see if it causes the issue.

He might be telling the truth, if the performance issue is caused by drivers like the support team has been suspecting.

I’ve been thinking the same thing. For me it started with a war in the heavens though. Perhaps a workaround is to crank the end game start year up to maximum and just enjoy the new economy for a while.

Also, I notice that when this happens my processor usage graph takes on a triangular waveform, with short spikes in usage presumably corresponding to the responding gamestate, followed by a period of low usage, which I imagine corresponds to the not-responding gamestate.

I have been using some cheat mods that speed the game up and am having the same problem in only like 10-25 years from the start tried it out on smallest maps and largest ones tried with only 1-2 ai and with 30

so far the worst I have let it get was 30 sec for 1 day that was around 2 years after the slow down started

again I am cheating (and have the AI cheating) so what I am doing in 1 year is likely 10-20 for normal game play

Edit
o ya my computer is fairly old now
I7 920 (overclocked to 3.2GHZ)
GTX 770
8GB ram
win 64
150GB ssd for windows
1tb SSD for game

How long exactly are we going to have to wait for a fix on this? Steam won't refund me and paradox has so far left me almost a week with an expansion I can't play.

The problem isn't the drivers. I have not updated my Nvidia drivers for 3 months and I have the same issue.
The truth is no one has any idea what causes such bad performance.
First it the number of pops.
Then it was fleet size.
Then @klingonadmiral did some tests that pointed towards it being UI related.
Then people thought it was sectors and AI juggling pops.
Now its trade and gateways/wormholes.

The truth is no one has any idea and it is probably all of the above plus a million other things.
I think stellaris is an amazing game and it has out of all the paradox titles evolved the most IMHO due to the great and passionate team behind it.
Alas this specific problem has only gotten worse and worse each patch. Stellaris is what 2 years old?
Either paradox has no idea how to fix it or doing so would require so much work that it basically isn't feasible.

Stellaris is an amazing game but I find myself wondering with every dev diary "hmmm just give a noticeable, sizable increase in performance that doesn't make it a chore to play between 2300 and 2500".

PS sorry for there not being any punctuation, it's late and I'm tired

Same for me, I just got around the 2400 mark and the game is almost unplayable. I can't understand how they went and made what was already a huge issue with Stellaris that much worse. Now I might as well get a book out to read between in-game months.

I have an 8700k btw, CPU utilization doesn't go above 25-30%, but checking resource monitor, as usual, one of the threads is getting hammered. Only this time I didn't even make it to the late game.
