But I'm not talking about visual representation of a battle right now. I'm talking about that actually happens. In CK2/EU4/Vic2 land and naval battles are quite similar - every unit interacts with every other unit, on a daily basis. Thus calculations are made, and so the battle progresses. How the battle would progress in monthly gameticks?
Currently battle state computed as following. Let's call state at day s1. Then s2=f(s1), s3=f(s2),...s31=f(s30). s31 would be the state at first day of the following month. So with the monthly turns the simplest way is to compute it exactly the same way. Of course, without need to compute all intermediate state, it can be optimized by computing s31 more directly. Neither of those would change battle mechanics, of course (meaning that it wouldn't improve). Right now figuring out what has happened in the battle and how efficient your fleet was is fairly inconvenient and time consuming. It would be nice to get reports like in Dominions and be able to replay the battles.

Blows my mind that there are still people insisting this is a hardware related problem. We still have not seen a single video by anybody demonstrating stutter-free gameplay in 2400+ on a decently developed galaxy.

Hello,

I have posted in another thread about game performance asking for fixes/mods/ some tricks in game settings to improve performance. So far I have heard about the steam workshop mod which fiddles with trade routes and the Glavius AI mod which are supposed the improve performance but so far nothing has helped. Regardless of mods, I expect this game to work without help from mods which it does not.

I have only played one game to 2437, I constructed multiple gateways and other megastructures to unlock achievements since its my first time ever even getting this far. However like many of you the game is stuttering so bad that its no longer fun or reasonable to keep playing.

I started a new game with 0,25 wormholes, 0,25 gateways and at about 2280 I start to get choppy performance. In all my games, be it a new one or one with long playtime I have always retained 60 fps yet the stuttering continues.

I tried lowering all graphic settings - no impact on performance.
I re-installed the game. No impact on performance.
I am playing the beta patch already. No impact on performance.

I can provide savegames if someone is willing to investigate.

When can we expect to this game to a playable state? I have yet to experience an engame crisis let alone play to 2450 within over 100 hours of playtime because of this update.

They have been working on this for weeks now and did several performance improvements. The improvements were small however, so the stuttering is still very bad. It's the holidays now, so I am afraid this won't get fixed soon.

I too am suffering from the stuttering bug. Around 2300 the game goes into slideshow mode. I have also noticed another interesting bug. Normally, when the game is paused everything runs fine. However, when I enable the "Opinion Map Mode", my game suddenly starts going into conniption fits as if the game were unpaused. I never noticed this in the early game. However, now at 2414 I was just sitting back and appreciating my 2/3 galactic conquest and enabled that map mode out of curiosity and bam... massive frame drop.

For reference I am playing this on a Asus G75VX with 24GB RAM and a 670GTX 3GB dedicated video card and a 100GB SSD.

PS. Has anyone else noticed that the guy claiming to have no performance lag, etc.. keeps pointing out that his game is still in the 2200s? I had no performance issues until around mid way through 2300. It slowly crept up and seems to get worse as more civilizations create or open/find gateways or wormholes.

At first I thought the lags could be caused by one of mods but apparently not :( Running a liquid cooled 8700k @ 5, overclocked 1080, 16GB RAM with the game installed on a NVMe drive. 600 stars galaxy gets unplayable around 2400...

Hope this will be fixed soon!

Mods can make this way worse though, this one for example has lots of fun settings which could make your game choke in few years, though didn't even had much problem in vanilla unless using biggest map:
https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=1559417145
It does show that the cause is in base game though, just it make it noticably bigger by adding more of base game.

What in-game year are we talking about here? The last guy who made that claim also said that he usually quits his games after 150 years...
A video showing late game ( ~2400+ ) footage would be very much appreciated.

Also, could you give the savegame I already posted in this thread a try? That would be great. I haven't found a single pc able to run it without stuttering. I'm very curious how it runs for you.
While doing so, please make sure to enable the frametime graph by entering "3dstats" in the game's console.
Thanks!

What could technically be a source of this stutter? Could it be routes planning maybe? Let's think about it. How does it work? Imagine we need to find a route from system A to system B. We take system A and check all other systems for a connection with A. Handful of systems that have connection with A are saved into the list. Next step we do the same check for each of the A-connected systems. The list exponentially grows until we either eventually hit system B or get no more systems possible to add to the list due to the closed borders or hostiles blocking.
And why does it starts to lag so much lategame, assuming it is the route-planning that is the source of it? Because of the gateways! Normally a system has just a few neighboring systems. But if the system has a gateway, then it automatically becomes connected with ALL the other friendly gateway-systems! Imagine we take system A, then add all of it's hundreds "neighbors", then add hundreds neighbors of each of the hundred initial neighbors... You see where it is going? I assume if you build gateway in each of the system in the galaxy, the game will just not move at all. Who wants to test this theory? :)

I got tired of people saying crap about others because of different experiences. I have zero experience with recording on my computer, so I took my phone and loaded up a save from my most recent game. Hit the play button and turned it up to fastest speed and started recording with the phone.

I'm still failing to see any of those so called stutters and my game certainly isn't a slideshow either.

however, for some reason, when I try 'upload a file' here while posting a comment and selecting the .mp4 file, the browser window with filesending simply stops responding while displaying : "sending request to forum.paradoxplaza.com".

Strange. How big is the file? Maybe it just takes a while to upload.
If all else fails you could always just upload it to a free file hosting service and post the link here.

I you experience lags and stutter please get rid of the Steam overlay which you can set in steam, this has been a problem with Paradox products before and Stellaris in particular. Also, try running it outside of Steam, although that require all mods to be locally installed.

Another tip... turn of all anti-virus or malware protections... some of them can be more harmful than useful sometimes. Also make sure to prioritize the Stellaris process and turn of anything that you think can interfere with your CPU in any way.

I never really experience much lag in the game and my computer are decent one but not the best.

Since some people seem to be fine and others don't it can't just be the game, there have to be some other factors. The game are not utilizing multiple cores too efficiently but it does do alright in my computer and I play with maps that has stars greater than the biggest vanilla maps.

Sadly, it's not the Steam overlay. At least not in my case. Disabling it changes nothing.
Could you do me a big favour and try out the savegame attached to this comment? That would be really great. Please enable the frametime graph by entering "3dstats" in the game's console while doing so.
Thanks alot!

I get about 20 FPS at Fast speed and Fastest i about 15 FPS and actually run the game slower than Fast. There are probably some multi-threading issues that make Fastest worse than Fast somehow?!?

All in all I run Fast at around 20 seconds per month with roughly 20+ FPS...

Is that roughly what you get... I do experience some lag, especially on Fastest but that setting does not run the game faster so no point in using that at this stage obviously. The current game that I have is running a bit smother but I have not gotten quite as far yet.

Thank you very much for trying out the savegame!
I don't really care that much about the actual fps, what drives me absolutely nuts is the constant freezing which occurs with every day tick. My fps values are about the same as yours, maybe even a tad better.
I'm reposting a video I've already posted in this thread to show you what I mean. Please also observe the red frametime graph. Do you experience something similar?

Yes.. I think I experience roughly the same thing... obviously the game does calculation at every day tick that will have to do with mostly fleet movement.

When I run you save it run quite well without major issues at Normal speed and at Fast I start to experience some stutter at day ticks... it depends on how zoomed in on the map I am though. So it probably have something to do with displaying ship movement or something, the only thing I can think of when this happens. Hard to say.

Those spikes are there at earlier stages as well and you can sort of feel them, they are just not as high and gets more and more pronounced as a game goes on.
