Hi ...

I tend to buy (50% Price in Steam) the Game; but since CK-II, I tend to be careful, caused by Performance-Issues ...
My SPECS are in my Signature ...

Is the Game good in Multi-Core-Usage ? ...
It seems, that Intel-CPUs and Geforce-GPUs are better in Puncto Performance ? ...

Or simply ... Can I run the Game good (till a big City) ?

Here my findings so far. Graphic wise it runs ok. Around 25 fps on medium to high settings. Simulation wise it all depends on my processor. I did a little test and analysed the results.
Here my findings:

Grotefoto-WAYGDNIT.jpg

A day takes 9,7 seconds on 1x speed.

On 3x speed:
A day takes 2,4 seconds (with a low population). By the time I got almost 300k population, a day took 7.1 seconds. This means that with every 1k population increase, the calculation time increases with 0.017 seconds. -> If i reach a population of a million, a day will take almost 20 seconds.

With a population of 450k it doesn't matter anymore if I use the 1x speed or the 3x speed. The simulation speed will be the same. After 450k population the game will run slower as intended (a day will take longer as 9.7s).

I am interested to know, how many seconds a day will take on systems with a high(er)-end processor on 3x speed at a certain population. This gives a lot of information about the simulation speed. You can predict how a certain system will simulate a higher population and how long a day will last.

And, yeah. The Traffic ++ mod slowed me down at around 50k population

To get at all any meaningful results everybody should load the same map (only pure vanilla buildings and stuff) and then check what are the FPS.
To post any results with any map is a waste of time because the results aren't comparable.

well to be honest, Im not concerned with FPS - Im interested in the speed of the simulation. so how long a single day passes would be a good measure.

Operating system will also play a role too. Windows users using DirectX whilst Mac/Linux use OpenGL -- Linux users like myself, may suffer from abysmal performance (around 10-25 fps) when I know it can be a whole lot better... it's to do with some bug with Unity I believe.

AMD A6-3670 2.7 GHz (4 cores)
8 GB RAM
NVIDIA GTX 960 (2 GB)
Regardless if settings are set to high or low. :(

Im particually interested in at what population you encounter simulation slow down.

My hardware is :

AMD Phenom II X6 1055T 2.80GHz
7Gb RAM
graphics card is NVIDIA GT 440

simulation starts to slow at around 40k. goes at a snails pace at 80k. Having lots of rail and public transport seems to make it worse.. but Im not sure. If you could post your specs and when you notice significant slowdown that would be helpful. thank you.

Have you upgraded your video yet? Just curious how much of an improvement if any in the last 2 months.

From what I've seen this game seems to slow down on CPU power more often than GPU power. It'd be interesting to benchmark an overclocked Skylake 6700K versus say, a 4790K or a 2600K.

So did you replace the GPU? I assume no. Was there any improvement in performance with the latest patch?

From what I've read, there is very little difference between the i7 quad core processors. The earlier ones overclock better while the newer ones are more efficient. Newer ones are pre-overclocked higher, but not sure if there is much of a benefit of one over the other with overclocking them all.

But My main concern is you GPU. That GT 440 is way under the requirements and is currently the cause of your issues. That 6-core should be able to fill the 9-tiles of the map fairly easy. But you're capping out under 100k which indicates your GPU is maxing out, not your CPU.

Not to mention if your city is way out of balance it will lag out as well. Watch your imports/export and have them near zero as possible.

As far as benchmarks go, as already been stated, there is none for this game in particular. You can try to create one yourself with a game save for download and a set of settings and other requirements such as resolution, overclocking, etc.

I would love to know how you guys get such good performance. I gave up on this game several months ago (much to my dismay) because at a population of 40,000 full game speed is NO BETTER than the minimum game speed. A full day takes 13 seconds at max speed. Here are my specs:

i7-4770 (@3.4GHz)
16GB RAM
Radeon R9 390X with 8 GB RAM.

I am running several mods... however I am very experienced with modding and NO set of mods in any game that I have ever played or modded has ever quartered the game speed unless they were very graphics intensive. The graphics card is new since my last play back in October but it has only affected the smoothness of graphics. Graphics are amazing. However it has not improved simulation performance AT ALL. All city simulators I have played previously don't start taking performance hits until the population is MUCH MUCH higher (a couple hundred thousand or so).

1600 assets, approx 45 mods. 360k cims & 29k buildings on a 81 tiles map.
No issues whatsoever, game runs smoothly, no hickups but I've only got one speed.
One day takes 11.5 secs regardless of speed. Can't complain.

This is similar to what I am running on and my experience. On AD I could get up to a spread out city of 70K. With Snowfall, trams and pedestrian routes, I get up to a 25K compact city and a day taking forever. All speeds are the same. I came looking on the forums to see if I could do something to speed it up - I even started to replace trams with metro lines again.

Remember this is an agent based simulator and cims needs to get from point A to point B in a timely manner. Your issue are two-fold, you use mods which increase the load on the CPU. I've seen Traffic++ alone double the load by cutting my FPS in half, plus poor city layout increasing traffic agents and other cim agents making you lose even more computer resources. early game it's usually imports/exports and not enough highways to cims to their destinations on time.

currently, the latest patch has issues with bike lanes and surely other issues yet to be determined. so if currently it has gotten worse, it may take some time to find all the bugs. There should be a patch out soon.

You sound like your other games aren't agent based simulators as they use lots of CPU and little graphics. Mods for this game are usually AI behavior people aren't happy with and modify it and it uses up even more resources. Your graphics card is way past the recommended and I can't ever see any reason your card would bog down. so no, your graphics card has zero performance affects on this game as it is mostly all CPU based. Tracking agents (CPU) vs. drawing agents(GPU).

Performance hit won't occur until you start saturating the agent limits. The game has built in limits, with the new patch you're experiencing these limits earlier than normal if you haven't played since October. Once the patch is out it should get smoother. Hopefully once patch is all that will be needed and you can be returned to normal play.

You can try upgrading (down grading) bike lane roads to normal roads. Bike lanes seem to be a major issue. Just don't over write your saved game if you choose to continue playing without bike lanes so, you can go back to your old game when the patch is finished completely.

I think a normal day takes around 8 seconds, although my new game with Snowfall takes 3-4 seconds. Maybe it just depends on your CPU loads. I don't use any mods except unlock 25-tiles which you can unsubscribe as soon as all 25-tiles are unlocked. But the key to best performance is no mods or assets. assets have a much smaller impact, but can slow down in some instances. especial when they are more than a cosmetic mod.

Anyone upgraded from any recent AMD processor to an Intel processor? I'm interested in knowing if there's a big gap in performance with this game between AMD and Intel. Not necessarily performance/money ratio as I understand the current market is skewed (AMD's cheaper, Intel often has better performance?).

AMD 8350 (4x2 core) @ 4.5 GHz (L2 4x2 MB, L3 8 MB shared)
16 GB DDR3 1600 MHz
2x AMD 270 cards
1 TB Samsung Evo 840 SSD
Ubuntu 15.10 64-bit w/ the open source video driver

The game seems to run fine (aside from the current bug with pedestrians/cyclists), but fps does dip a bit when zoomed in. Was very playable with a 250k city. Could be smoother, but then again I'm the type to notice when fps dips from 60 to 40.
