I have a Windows 8 tablet upon which I wrongly assumed would run CKII. It does run it, but barely. I would like to find a way to basically turn all of the graphics on the map off. Just have colored tiles, without any textures or details. I don't know much about modding, but if there is a simple way to do this (basically change it to CK1 graphics) I'd like to know about it.

This is done in settings.txt, under your MyDocuments CK2 folder. Turn off draw_trees and draw_rivers (you can experiment with others in that list you'll see there) and make low_res_textures=yes

I did those and used a flat map mod without any noticeable improvement. I really think this game should work as Paradox games are usually designed for weaker systems.

If AndrewT's suggestions did not work for the game on your tablet I'd recommend checking the minimum requirements and see if they are somewhat comparable with your tablet, it is difficult to tell whether or not you'd be able to run the game well on the tablet without knowing it's specifications as well :) I've put the minimum requirements for the game on Windows below.

Code:
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
CPU: Intel Pentium 4 2.4 GHz or AMD 3500+
CPU Speed: 2.4 GHz
RAM: 2 GB
OS: Windows XP / Vista / 7
Video Card: NVIDIA GeForce 8800 or ATI Radeon X1900
Free Disk Space: 2 GB

the tablet exceeds the requirements except for the graphics. That might be the issue. It has the most up to date 'hardware' support, the newest shaders, but it has no dedicated graphics memory and I don't know if it even has a graphics processor at all. a Dual Core 1.8 w/ Hyperthreading is alot better than an ancient 2.4 single core. I think it's graphics which is the issue. This is why i hope someone will make a mod that not only flattens the map, but removes all of the textures and uses completely flat, single color tiles instead.
