Thanks for spotting this problem. It is a known issue that Mao is potentially the leader of two countries - China if turned communist and the (originally) communist PRC. The two countries are supposed to merge. My guess is that was not possible because of the puppetting.
Can you describe the circumstance how this came about please.
- What country you were playing
- Who was in a war with who, what factions etc.
- How come Spain was involved in China, that's an interesting one!
Anything else you think that might be relevant. And a save game file from around the time it happened might be really useful too.
I was playing as the Soviet Union, 1936 start date with historical focuses and ironman mode enabled.
There were two wars: the Allies were defending against the Axis over Danzig and the Axis were defending against the Comintern after I broke the Molotov-Rbbentrop pact through the War with Germany Focus. The Axis powers were Germany, Italy, Slovakia, Hungary, Romania, Japan and Siam; the Allies consisted initially of the UK with France and as the war developed Poland, Yugoslavia, Greece, the Low Countries, Norway, Denmark and the US joined (the US declared on Japan and the war was merged). The Comintern was made up of the Soviet Union as well as Iran and Turkey (who were flipped to Communist through boosting party popularity), Sinkiang and Republican Spain.
In the treaty after the war I annexed most of Poland and otherwise just looked to puppet and satellite as much as possible (Peoples Republic of China, Korea, Germany, Denmark, Switzerland, Hungary, Czechoslovakia, Romania, Libya, Ethiopia, Siam/Thailand and Yugoslavia).
I'm not sure exactly why Republican Spain decided to puppet/satellite China in the final treaty - as far as I could tell they had not occupied any territory in the area during the actual war although had gained a reasonable amount of war contribution through fighting the Germans in the Pyrenees.
I have a save file from the day after the final treaty was signed however I am not able to upload it as '.hoi4' is apparently not an allowed extension.
While writing this out I have also noticed another minor error - the flag of the communist DPRK lead by Kim il-Sung is that of the ROK.
