I've been playing around as hamburg.

Day one I pick the hansa and release hamburg as a vassal and choose to play as them. I will get a few people to support my independence war and then start the war.

Normally, Pomearnia joins and I work off the Hansa's rival list and the third time testing it Denmark also joined once.

When I declare the war it gets weird though. No one actually joins my side. On the declare war screen I see them greyed out like they don't have a choice other then to join (like coalition wars) but when the war actually begins and I let a few days pass so it adds allies. It's me a OPM vs the hansa and all his allies. I can't invite them late or call them to arms late. Am I missing something? The people who agree to join my independence war are supposed to be in it right?

I tested it three times and every time I get the same result.

1.8.1

Another funny thing one of the three times I actually one my independence war because the Hansa and allies paced around between counties but didn't attack and I build enough warscore to piece out with reparations.

I made a very quick 58 second video explaining what I mean with the game open incase I'm explaining it poorly.

Heh, sucks to be Hamburg!

That does indeed seem like it's bugged on the one hand.

On the other hand, perhaps it has something do with timing and the fact that you released Hamburg and then played Hamburg? In other words, maybe you cannot do this right away and there is a delay in which nobody that agrees to support you will actually do so for a time. Otherwise, it seems like being able to do this right away might be seen as a possible exploit for doing something else (not sure what, maybe the 'take over your former overlord as a colony" thingie).

The Paradox Morlocks will have to resolve this one.

Well, since playing as released nation isn't even available in Ironman, I doubt it's the reason.

I found the problem. It's related to being a march. I checked with a few more things. If you are a march your allies don't join you. It has to be a bug.

DIdn't know you can't play released as iron man. I don't play iron man because I get a quick slowdown on saves due to the harddrive I'm currently using and it gets REALLY annoying when it's monthly. I checked it out and yeah. That's stupid but that's not for this topic. I cant think of any situation where releasing yourself as a vassal of a bigger nation is going to give you an unfair advantage.

I didn't know that either and I only play Iron Man. Albeit, I've never thought to look for the option (I kind of assumed it just exists for certain nations).

The way that it could give an unfair advantage is that say you spend 50 years conquering the Ottomans or someone big and you own all of their lands. Then you release the Ottomans as your vassal and play as the vassal. Off hand, I don't see an advantage to that, but if I think about some of the achievements, perhaps the "Sweden is not OP" one would be a good case. So you keep the union, and expand as Denmark, manage to gobble up the Baltic, then you sell the Provinces to Sweden (they will buy them if you core them) and then create Sweden as a Vassal, release it and you've basically got the achievement then - it may be you have to not be a vassal, but setting things up so that Denmark loses an independence war would be pretty easy (take out a zillion loans then gift it to Sweden before doing the split).

So I could see how it would never be in Iron Man. On the other hand, I assumed it was in Iron Man somewhere since there's an achievement for overthrowing and taking your colonial master as a colony. I'll have to go read about that one it seems.
