Okay, I know this is the Black Plague forum but uh... Didn't see any Overture one. Sorry if I'm wrong...

But I'm wondering... how did a game that started free on the internet go to needing a serial key AND a connection on the internet to activate the product? That last bit is ridiculous... So much so that I immediately felt the need to come here and make a post about how ridiculous it is :D

Seriously, even the big games by major publishers don't require something as dumb as internet activation for their product, so the fact that a publisher is doing it for an indie product just blows me away with stupid.

(not to mention that it was a digital download, rendering the whole thing an exercise in not only stupid, but pointless stupid)

Overture didn't start free, you're thinking of the tech demo. When they set out to create a full game, it was always intended to be sold.

Many major publishers require internet activation. Valve's Steam is essentially an authentication service, EA uses it for their recent games, etc..

It's a one-time entering of the key... that's it. I have not noticed any outward connections by Overture following the one-time activation.
