1. I know we can build pedestrian paths, but can we use them as roads and make zones around them? Can we have a house not connected to an actual road?
2. Can we build sqares just for pedestrians?

If 2 above would be possible, we would be able to build european-like old towns with car free zones, squares, markets, central square etc. which would be awesome...

I think Totalymoo mentioned somewhere that pedestrian paths do not allow you to zone next to them. I can't find the source tho.

And wouldn't the answer to your second question be a park? :p

Yup, I just found it in FAQ, we can't zone them at the moment, but maybe in the future :( And no, parks wouldn't help if we'd want to connect them with pedestrian paths coming from all sides, if you know what I mean. We can make roads NEXT or AROUND the parks, but we can't connect the road INTO it.

Did we ever establish whether we may paint cobblestones or paving slabs or concrete onto ground between buildings (in which case we can make our open space look like a square)? And if we can "plop" decorations like fountains, flower beds, market stalls... we could make it pretty authentic.

True! I forgot we can make our own parks, thanks to that we can make some really nice squares. Now all we need is to zone pedestrian paths :D

No fill tool, but you can plop in decorations.

Oh, is a park the pedestrian equivalent of a premade road junction?

That's a good comparison! The big difference is the leisure bonus that pre-made parks give.

It would be good if we could zone low residential and maybe low commercial on path ways. A row of bungalows or something, maybe a corner shop at the end, a pub, or some garages. That kind of thing is quite common.

EDIT: Maybe even high res zoning, blocks of flats for example, i presume we can put things like basketball courts, childrens play parks and soccer fields along pathways?

This makes me wonder, do we have cyclists on Cities Skylines? These pathways sound perfect for them.

As far as I remember the possibility of having zones in pedestrian paths was not discarded permanently, so I guess it should appear sometime after launch.

I add the suggestion of also offering the possibility to place subway stations next to pedestrian paths. And maybe tram stations in case of a tram DLC/Update/Expansion Pack.

There's seperate decorations? you mean like loose fountains and stuff we can just build?

Yep! Although the game only has trees and bushes in this category for launch. Props/decorations should be extremely easy to create and share, and I fully expect hundreds if, not thousands, to hit the Steam Workshop.

I'd love to have these things next to pedestrian paths, but it would take a bit more work from CO. If you actually think about the rules that determine zoning, it's not exactly simple.

Cyclists would be fantastic! There's a big thread about it on the forums here with some incredible pictures of cyclists in cities. In my own opinion though, the reason cyclists aren't added into city-building games is because bikers never follow any traffic rules! At least here in Utah, bikers just do whatever the hell they want. Them and joggers. Oh, you're driving here? too bad, I don't pollute so... make way!

Obviously, I have issues with bikers and joggers.

Great! ^_^
Just curious, do cims interact with these props, or are they just eye candy?

Kinda weird that we can't zone next to pedestrian paths. Car problem? Well add a parking lot. I don't understand why they disabled it. Especially in Europe, there are many buildings to roads where only pedestrians are allowed.

it's pretty easy to add cyclist, in facts you could construct bycicle routes only, and make bycicles follow the route as the rule in the game.
i don't see it difficult to make and the reason about "they do what they want" could be easily counteracted by making them following one rule, easy.

The weird thing is in CiM2, you couldn't *stop* buildings coming up next to pedestrian paths, and lots of us were asking to be have a type of pedestrian road which didn't make buildings. In this game, we've been listened to and now have pedestrian paths without buildings. BUT, in this game we can choose whether to paint zones or not, so it was a good opportunity to leave the choice open to us whether we have the building or not, not make it fixed behaviour.

The game already allows journeys that are part walking part vehicle - after all, anyone who takes a bus in the game has to walk into their destination building, so I really don't see there would have been a technical problem with allowing zoning along these paths.
