I'm playing Venice in a GC (Ubisoft 1.05 UK), and I'm in the 1500s. Four times now I've been at war with Austria, and all four times I've been losing badly (usually he conquers Veneto then sues for peace).
Each time (sometimes after asking for one or more provinces, which I refuse) Austria's AI has settled on the basis of the few coppers I have left in my treasury plus my conceding miltary access. An offer I've been pleased to accept, since it's a whole lot better than see my empire shrinking away!
Each time, usually within a matter of months, Austria has then cancelled the military access (but not attacked me or anything until the five years' truce is over)
Why is the AI acting so irrationally? If it wants military access why doesn't it use it for something? If it doesn't, why ask for it rather than continue the war or sue for more advantageous terms?
Maybe there's something a little awry inside the formula the AI uses for weighing up what peace settlement to offer that over-states the value of military access? Or more likely perhaps something that makes countries cancel military access too readily. Apart from not being able to attack someone, there isn't any downside in retaining military access AFAICS, so why should the AI abandon it so quickly??
