When the Japanese launch Surprise Attack on Pearl Harbour, do all the ships there get destroyed?

one more question...will it happen on dec 7? in my game as usa the date is already passed...no attack. i hope the japanese didn't back down on it.
They get their bonuses from the moment they're at war with the USA. They can back down though.
will japan still dow the US if they ar getting thier tails kicked by china?, in my last game as USA china stomped japan and i got no dow from japan 
How the JAP-CHI war is going is irrelevant; it's possible for Japan to lose Manchuria, Korea, and the Home Islands to the Chinese, be fighting on from Truk, and still DoW USA, HOL, and ENG.
Which file is the Pearl Harbour event in? I looked in US + Jap event files to no avail.
Hmm.. is it really worth giving the USA 250 manpower and 3 hawk slider moves in response for some short lived combat bonuses?

Since the US Behemoth is enough of a behemoth already, for gameplay purposes, Pearl Harbor would be just fine without giving the US bonuses, correct?
Though I think moving the Interventionism slider would be justified. For gameplay purposes.

Yes. It works that way so the US cannot get around the negative effects of Pearl Harbor by doing stuff like that.
you need fleet in pearl harbor to activate the event?
hmm...in my game it's sep 1942 now...no day of infamy i cannot wait any longer so i join allied and start beating on italy now. i did put some fleets in pearl though. i also scour the history log...in case jap backed down. but couldn't find it. Will i know if JAP back down?

Position of your fleet as USA has no effect on the surprise attack event.

The day of infamy whether I have ships or not at Pearl occurs at different times, usually earlier than Dec 7. Especially if I do not give Japan any oil or trade agreements, sometimes a little later depending how they are doing in China.

For those people who say they haven't had a Pearl Harbour event - are Japan at war with the USA in your game yet?
Unlike history the Japanese have to DOW before the Pearl Harbour event happens. It will also happen even if the USA DOWs first.
