Good day Folks...

I have quite a strange question: Started a new Ironman game with the Palatinate. Like always, my goals are slow, reasonable growth and building, building, building. On my way of course slapping Austria around and becoming Emperor. Allied Bavaria and Burgundy from the start and everything went reasonably well.

I took around 4/5 provinces from Frankfurt to Alsace and am quite Content. Now it's 1484 and there is a Problem: Suddenly I am the Senior Partner in a PU with Burgundy under me.

It may Sound strange, but in the Moment this is just TOO much might/power for me. I have never been a huge map-painter and I basically don't want a PU with Burgundy now (later on very nice, but not for the next 50-75 years)

So, can i somehow dissolve the Union while staying "friends" and especially keeping my alliance with Burgundy? Austria is not dismantled yet, so a strong ally would be welcomed and it would be really disgusting to turn hostile towards the Burgundians:)

I know that of course, but how will this affect my relations with Burgundy? Will the alliance be kept or also dissolve? That's my peeve here:) (As you can guess I never go for or care much about PUs, but in this case it's quite interesting)

You can also keep the PU while treating it like a normal alliance. Since you are small you will never inherit them.
This.
You could just treat Burgundy as a very strong alliance-partner, who will always join every war you enter.
If you don't bother to force-integrate with a diplomat, the chances of you actually inheriting their lands are fairly low (quite possibly 0, considering the relative sizes).

Now this is a problem I wish I had.

So far I haven't managed any PUs in my games (Byzantium normal mode, no Ironman, 1444-1821; Wallachia Ironman 5+ attempts, latest date I reached was 1531).
Can PUs just happen to you? I mean you have a royal marriage, the other country has no heir and you're invited peacefully to lead them? I didn't even know this could happen :)

Yeah, it can absolutely 'just happen'. Basic requirements being that the target has no prestige and their ruler dies without an heir.

I was made a junior partner 3 times in a recent Ming game due to poor utilization of the Bureaucrats; twice under Ayutthaya and once under Vijayanagar.
