How do I get through a peace conference as a democracy without the resulting -200 opinion malus.

Giving my warscore to another nation - minus 200 opinion.
Taking all the land I can - minus 200 opinion
Pressing done, and nothing else - minus 200 opinion
Making supervised states and changing government - minus 200 opinion
Sitting through and passing all the way through - minus 200 opinion
These are ALL the options available.

How do I get through the peace conference without making -200 opinion from my allies?

unless there's countries to liberate, I'm not sure what else would lower world tension. It's kind of annoying though. Sometimes the USA will declare war on you, because of the amount of world tension you've supposedly caused.

What country are you playing as ?

Best way is to have the main faction member surrender to someone else in your faction so the peace tension goes to them instead.

Yes the best result came from liberating countries... there were only a limited number to release but made no difference to the -200 opinion.

Yes, noticed that when they surrendered to me it generated a mass of WT on my behalf. Unavoidable if I actually want to win the war since USA and UK are so pathetic.
I actually tried my best to not generate the most participation but it ended with me at 35%, the UK at 25% and the USA at 24%. Again, unavoidable if you want to win a war.

I played as democratic france for the achievement vive le france. (not capitulating, playing until 1948)

I have joined the Allies alliance as Non Aligned before and much the same happens, but as unaligned and strong enough to take on the allies the opinions of them matter little. But as a democratic nation this was a first and very suprising result. Effectively forced to get booted from the faction and be declared on without any way out of it.

This seems very poorly thought out by the developers.
I am surprised this isn't an issue that has been looked at and discussed before.

Obvioulsy very few people play democratic nations.

I think your on to some thing there... I tried the US once and it was kind of like watching paint dry.
Historic, I think Stalin got the WT. ;)
LOL! Yes my first attempt at playing a democratic nation was with the USA, and like you I got bored, mostly due to the restrictions to action/activity as compared to Fascist nations. They did however have some interesting political mechanics which kept me playing for a while. But not for long :p

As already mentioned, playing the Democrats is boring and the problem is that Hoi4 seems like a game I thought for fascists and communists. STOP! Ironically Hoi2 / hoi3 with the USA you could enter the axis for example ... that is, you were more free with a game NOT THINKED FOR ALTERNATIVE HISTORY than with Hoi4 ... which was born for alternate history (and it does BAD!)
