Greetings everyone,

So I'm playing v1.05 as the Ottomans. With Mehmed II I marched my armies from Greece towards Rome and succeeded in capturing all of Venice's provinces. I decided that in a peace settlement that I would take only the lower few provinces and accept a large cash settlement in addition. Since I had 100% victory conditions, I selected the two provinces I wanted and cranked the ducat payoff to around 500d. Since this was only around 50% value at the negotiation table, I figured it would be accepted, and it was. However those Italian bast*rds gave me the land but stiffed me on the ducats!

Seriously -- I got the "Peace settlement accepted" screen, but no cash. Anyone else ever see this?

I assume it happened because Venice could not come up with that much cash?

I assume all governments in history waited for their competitors to be flush with tax income before payment of peace resolution. At worst it's an exploit. At best I just don't care. :)

No, but cash payment for peace, otherwise known as reparations, were able to be paid off over a period of years, no matter how ruinous. Nations were also able to take loans to pay them.

I never thought of it before, but, although I can see how forcing the AI to take unsustainable loans would be easy to exploit, making them pay off over a course of years might not be so bad. Consider it as accepting an interest free loan for 5-10 years, with the same consequences of default as a normal loan.

What's everybody else think?

This has been suggested several times before, the answer is always about playbalance for the AI. Also, No new features or changes only bug fixes in future patches.

The AI countries get the same problem - when they want to demand 300 ducats from you and you only have 6 in the bank, you're presented with a demand for 6 ducats and can get out of the war cheaply.

When 1.06 comes out (it'll be a while yet so don't pester Paradox) you won't be able to ask for more money than the AI has in its bank account at that time. Note that if you delay in submitting the offer he can still spend it:)

It's quite a cool feature
