In my latest game, this was how land was distributed between factions prior to the peace conference (Japan can't be seen but is under allied control). Notice that the Soviet Union is doing quite poorly, they have taken parts of China but they have lost Moscow and the Allies control the caucasus and all its sweet oil (liberated from Axis control).

And this is how the World looks after the peace conference. Please notice how Cominterm now controls all of China, all of Turkey, Austria and most of Germany (and Notince how Germany and Austria are completly surrounded by Allies land)
after_peace_conference.jpg

Also did I mention that the Soviet Union, despite its abysmal perfomance got the highest war contribution and got to pick first?

Apparently at the peace conference all the Allied leaders (which from what I hear all had a very positive opinion of Comintern, Churchill in particular was very pro comunist) were so moved by all the men that Soviet Union had lost that they let Stalin puppet or annex half of the Axis just to make him happy.

Please Paradox, try to make the Peace conferences a little more plausible in the next patch. If the real WWII had unfolded like it did in my game I am pretty sure that the Soviets would not have been allowed to puppet half of the Axis (I would say they could consider themselves lucky if they managed to get the Caucasus back). Also the peace conference interface could also use an overhaul, is really hard to see who has taken what.

PS: Also for some reason USA, who had puppeted Nationalist Spain, also decided to annex part of Spain instead of giving the land to its puppet.

Well isn't this kind of accurate? Would the other war participants just shrug off the huge sacrifice of the Soviet soldiers?

The current scoring system values victorious battles very highly so to get the highest score they must have done at least somewhat well. Could you provide a savegame from before the peace conference?

The allies migh have build monuments to their sacrifice or even payed economic compensations to the Soviets. But they would have never let them puppet Germany and Austria and let them annex Turkey (giving them full control of the bosphorus) if the war ended with the eastern front located east of Moscow. Historically, Nationalist China suffered enormous casualties in the War, and contributed to the allied victory by tiying a lot of Japanese divisions and probably because of that their got their cores back, but they did not get to Annex/Puppet Japan or Korea.

Anyway, I loaded the save as the Soviets. And this is the break down of war participation. Actually they seem to get a lot of their warscore from the Chinese provinces they occupy (I thought they would be worth less considering they don' have much industry but maybe scoring is partially based on state population), they also get a lot of warscore for strategic bombing (though at this point they are only bombing their own terriotory occupied by Germany).

I have attatched the save in case anyone wants to check it (requires no man's land and TFV)

Regardless of their score and how it was calculated, I think that the game would be more historically plausible if the peace conference system would not allow to annex or puppet states your faction does not occupy, or at least if taking them was much more expensive.

Enhanced Peace Conference AI Mod. It is so good PDS incorporated an earlier version into the game.

If they don't occupy the clay to back their claims, sure. Ultimately post war borders were mostly along what was occupied at the end.

In OP sense, they should be happy allies don't set up democratic puppet state in Ukraine (reverse of historical Poland etc.).

patch 1.3 said:
  • Warscore system now uses combats instead of just taking provinces (these give a lot less) to reward nations
This sounded to me like Paradox wants to specifically de-emphasize taking land for the purpose of the peace conference. I'm not agreeing with that change but I assumed that was the devs' line of thinking. Since this change defeating a division gives as much score as taking a whole state of empty land. Or did they change the warscore system for some other reason?
