Would there be interest for a plebeian meet up on Friday evening (when Kings and Emperors have their own show) somewhere? Like hamburgers and beer at Hard Rock Cafe Berlin or something?

There are tons of better restaurants than hardrock cafe around. Try BurgerAmt at Boxhagener Platz. That area has tons of different restaurants (of varying quality) a nice big park, Spaetis (small shops open until 4:00 where you can get cheap beer/softdrinks/snacks and other stuff) and is quite close to the PDXCon venue, minimizing travel time for most people. Hard Rock Cafe is literally on the other side of the City from the venue (still only takes about 25 minutes thanks to the great public transport system).
Then again, my hotel is right next to HRC 
Of course, if someone else is going to arrange a Friday meeting for the plebs in some other place, then I am happy to come along

Berlin has an excellent public transport network (not stopping any Berliner to complain about it), these tourist ticket will give full access to it for a number of days as well as reduced entry to some attractions. If you don't intend to buy the tourist ticket, then the Berliner tickets might need some explanation.
There are 3 types of tickets:
1)Day ticket, pretty self explanatory, allows you to use the public transport for the full day.
2)2h ticket, allows you to use public transport for up to two hours in ONE direction. This ticket does not allow to go from A to B and then back from B to A within the 2h (I hated that change when introduced)
3) Short Trip ticket, this ticket allows to go 3 Stations by U or S-Bahn and 6 stations by Bus or Tram in one way.
There are some variations to the Tickets, based on City regions:
AB: AB tickets involves all of Berlin proper and should be your go to ticket if you want to stay within the city and explore museums etc.
ABC: This ticket involves the whole local public transport network. You will want this ticket when arriving in Berlin Schoenefeld (SXF) airport to go into the town or to visit Potsdam (Schloss Sanssouci)

You know that it's practically impossible to figure out what date this thing will be on, right? The date doesn't appear on the forum banner, and it doesn't appear on the site itself. The closest it gets is showing that it will be on the 18th, 19th and 20th of some month, but given how many months in advance this thing was announced that's hardly helpful.

Okay, so it fades in on one page, but I scrolled down to the actual static information before it was even visible. It's not on the agenda. It's not static anywhere else.No it's not, it's on the first page
The official local transport App "BVG Berlin Tickets" is very convenient and easy to use, for those who want one less worry on arrival.
Advice: don't risk riding in the black... Berlin does allot of random ticket checks on the main lines... and the controllers do not look obvious...a punk and an old lady will get on the S-bahn and as soon as the doors close out come their IDs and scanners ...
Just to point out, those arriving at Tegel (TXL) are fine with an AB ticket and the TXL bus is a convenient and fast route.
Those arriving at Berlin Brandenburg Airport... well, see you when Vicky 3 come out....
