This aged as well as I expected. ;)
Listen, I'll totally eat my words that my other predictions were completely incorrect and somehow the devs have managed to pull this off.

But what you quoted is and was accurate. The code I demonstrated, which was new code for this DLC, had zero stuff in it for underground layers, the new material was coded in the exact same way as existing resources and coded to display on the maps as a normal resource.
My predictions were wrong, and I'll happily admit that, but there is no need to try to be snarky about something like this when the comment I said is factually correct. There was nothing in the leaked/mistakenly released code to evidence an underground layer.

Just gonna quote the full paragraph I said.

There is zero evidence of anything related to underground stuff like tunnels or a new map layer.
Honestly, the best I think you can realistically hope for is, on top of this new resource, they flesh out expedititons.
Its kind of pie in the sky thinking but perhaps the Recon Center has nothing to do with rare minerals and instead is related to planetary anomalies where you use it to scout for them, and once found, instead of a mission automatically completing you can go to a new map and complete a mini challenge there of some sort.
It would likely get tedious after a while, but might add abit of fun to an otherwise dull game mechanic (load the rocket, send it off, get reward).
Sounds like I pretty accurately predicted the usages of the recon center and that we'd do off base missions on a completely separate map, instead of revamping planetary anomalies though they just have you mining on an asteroid.

Curious to see how the map layer works to handle underground stuff because I was wrong there saying I didn't think they could do it.
