Behold the rise of a phoenix! As Byzantium rise again from the ashes of our Ottoman foe!

We started as a nation torn apart. A nation of many people. When Constantinople fell, we received an influx of byzantine scientists, scholar, merchants, and more in Lithuania. A renaissance was created for our nation. Challenges was overcomed. Goals set. We saw the light of the one true faith and our resolve grew stronger than ever before. We became united in our quest to free Constantinople from the hands of the infidels.

For many years have we fought to expand our nation, so that we would be strong enough to face the dreaded janissaries of the Ottomans. We remember how they came as a plague in our early years. Destroying our armies. Crippling our allies. But never did we even think of giving in to the infidels. In the end, we prevailed. We waged successful wars against the allies of the Ottomans, the hordes of Crimea and Bukhara. But their inferior technology and way of life proved to be of little resistance to our mighty armies as we crossed into their borders. We gained confidence. We showed the world that we can win! And as such, we marched towards Constantinople itself.

Today marks the day of our success! As Rome reborn, we stand triumphant! Now comes the time when all shall recognize the one true emperor!

Emperor Jonas Albertas Jagiellon, the first of his name, emperor of Byzantium, and restorer of Constantinople, shall always be remembered as the one who restored us to glory.

Now. Now we look to the future.

All hail emperor Isaakios Jagiellon, emperor of Byzantium, and true emperor of Rome.

And in the words of our ancestor: Veni, vidi, vici.

S.P.Q.R.

Can anyone explain how Lithuania became the Byzantine Empire? Or was that just flavor.

Thanks!

I'll gladly share the details. :D

First, there are two things you need to be if you want to recreate the empire. You need to be Orthodox. I fixed that by dealing with Muscovy, having them force religion in a peace deal. Besides, I start with most of my provinces as Orthodox anyway, and the bonuses are nice. Then you need to have Greek as primary culture. This one was more difficult. But since Lithuania starts with several cultures, none of them being of more than eight provinces, I all needed to conquer was nine Greek provinces (since the culture need to be of a majority if you want to shift culture). Thus, I focused my expansion by taking provinces from Crimea (Tartar culture), taking no more than eight provinces, along with Kaffa (starts as Greek). Then I conquered Greece itself, giving me enough provinces.

When I waged war against the Ottomans, I took all the provinces in the Greece region in one go. Though I had some minor rebels trying of getting in my way (326% overextension hurts!), this allowed me to change culture and become the Byzantine Empire almost straight away. Since you need to own every province in Greece to be able to use the decision, on both sides of the Aegean. And the empire was born anew.

So let's summarize what has happened while everybody went on vacation.

Brunei(JGradus) and Ming(Johan) managed to pull off an alliance with the AI France(Witch-King was on vacation), they lol-derp DOW's on Venice to take his Indian possessions in the name of the Greater Prosperity Sphere of Asia. This results in a cascade of alliances being called and now Europe is in turmoil.

France is fighting Netherlands, Denmark, Venice, Byzantium, Poland, Hungary and Muscovy. Netherlands is a defacto ally of France however and was AI'd during the time. From what I can see who are definite to join on France side is Spain and Netherlands.

Just asking has there been any coalitions on this game yet? Humans can exploit them like crazy. Pick a target (players always have some AE), five nations join in same coalitions and massrape.

In this specific one, no, but it has happened in other campaigns we've played yes.

King Louis XVI gave his First Minister an appraising look as the latter bowed deeply before him.
"Speak," said the king.
"Mon Roi, welcome back from your summer retreat. You look in excellent health."
"Thank you, de la Bretonnière... tell me of any important events that occurred during my absence."
The minister paused for a moment, then frowned with studied gravity and spoke: "Well, mon Roi, the first week our ally Spain was most cowardly attacked by Venice."
"Really? And how did our armies perform?"
"Alas, the foreign ministry thought it better to break our alliance with Spain due to deteriorating relations. So unfortunately, Spain was left alone and lost all its Italian possessions in the war."
"I see." You incompetents. "Anything else?"
The minister seemed to sense his king's thoughts, but continued bravely: "Well, during the second week of your absence we were attacked by Venice and Denmark."
"Venice again? And Denmark? Tell me more of this."
"They took advantage of our perceived diplomatic inertia and thought it safe to attack. Our allies did not help since their rulers were also at their summer retreats. But our brave armies defeated them, mon Roi!"
"Excellent. And dare I ask about the third week...?"
"We were again thrown into war with Venice and Denmark through strange machinations originating in Asia. Unfortunately, our Dutch allies and also others were drawn into war against us due to the chaos resulting from the absence of their governments. This war is still raging."
There it is then. "Very well. We shall finish it. Here are my orders..."

After a long period of darkness and tyranny in Europe, the French and Dutch menace has finally been halted and forced to recognize the inalieable rights of the peoples they would seek to oppress. The King of Denmark can only hope that the intended lesson has been learned so that these nations may never again threaten world peace through their imperialist ambitions.

By this he means a Gank where his side 3x-3.5x the Dutch-French Side had when the war was at its strongest.

Honestly Ming and Malaya getting involved is a bit ridiculous/strange. Not to mention the only person who really gained anything out of it was Denmark [Wiz], and Poland[Catalack] (Brandenburg and Rupin under his control, and Potsdam, Anhalt, Altmark, and Leipzig were released from Austria.) So Portugal, Byzantium, Ming, Malaya all put their troops through a meat grinder all for no gain to themselves.

So instead of talking about the French-Danish Menace, lets Discuss the Dansk-Swede-Byzies-Han-Porto "Death Star" Bloc.

Dirty imperialists. :p

P.S. Groogy, get your ass on Constantinople and Control the City of the Worlds desire. Tis is your Destiny!

Only if you count troops tied up on other continents, and ignore the fact that Egypt effectively joined on the other side. It was a lot more even than raw numbers of alliance would indicate.

Shhh.... stop using logic to weaken my argument. ;)

Though to be realistic, I don't understand why not use a different CB. If you really want to Damage the Franco/Dutch alliance a non Coalition CB would have worked better. Its half the reason we rarely use Coalitions in the Forum MP games. You put so much into a war, and gain far less out of it. Particularly because you can only take Claims/Cores.

Relations were a bit too crap to form an alliance between all the coalition members... we have one now though. You know, in case the vanquished refuse to stray from the path of wickedness.

Centuries ago, our great empire was torn in two. While the western part slowly crumbled, we have prospered in here in the east. Despite going through some difficult times, we have endured and our great nation is a glorious one.

Yesterday marked the day in which two once again became one. Two halves united under one flag. In a world where there is but one rightful emperor. Thankful of our allies in Poland, we have finally been given that which is rightfully ours. To rule with divine right.

All hail Emperor Alexios VI Jagiellon, emperor of the Romans, and emperor of Byzantium and the Holy Roman Empire, now united once again, and the heir of Rome.
