PC freezing

Today a strange problem happened, as I clicked on Load Game I heard a buzz sound and the PC froze, but I still could hear the music in the background, then I restarted the computer, I launched CK2 again and this time I made past the main menu, but 1 or 2 minutes later the PC froze again. This problem only happens with CK2.

Please post your Documents/CK2/settings.txt. From your Documents/Paradox/CK2/logs/ directory, post system.log . Open setup.log in notepad and search for 'checksum', post that line only here too please.


This sounds very much like a driver or hardware fault. But may as well try a full clean re-install:

- move any valued save games elsewhere
- "delete local content" in Steam-CK2
- manually delete all files and folders left under Steam/CK2 AND Documents/Paradox/CK2
- re-install game in Steam, run a Steam Verify when done.


Please report the temperatures of your CPU and video (GPU)
1/ before starting the game up and
2/ after starting the game (if you can). If your PC's vendor has given you no way of reading temperatures, install

It's working fine now, but if it happens again I'll create another thread. Out of curiosity my GPU temperature before playing is 55 - 60 °C, it used to be 47 - 50º, might have something to do with the summer, and when playing for some hours it reaches 77 ºC, and yes, the computer is clean.

77c is getting up there, but barely OK I would say - 80c is my mental "cut-off" limit

Probably worth getting the computer cleaned out with compressed air, or a trip to the workshop.
