PC Crash on Autosave in IRONMAN

After playing dozens of games without a problem i'm now playing England in Ironman mode for the achievements, going about colonizing and what not. Along comes Feb 1521, game autosaves to the steam cloud on 1 Mar then it crashes to desktop. (Error at Bottom)., I've seen lots of posts come up in google with this problem but not a single one ever had a fix attached.

Before you tell me to reinstall/reboot everything and shake it all about, i did. this is the second play through i've done thinking it was just a corrupted cloud save (obviously I can't view or edit the save file). did everything pretty much the same as before and I got the crash again (off a few years in game, but same crash).

If that possibly describes your problem, just put this game aside until the next patch is released, it should work then.
