PC - CK 2 won't start after reinstalling to new sdd drive.

Hello,

I bought Crusader Kings 2 from Steam as well as 3 DLCs for PC, windows 7. I migrated all my steam games using the instructions here: https://support.steampowered.com/kb_article.php?ref=7418-YUBN-8129http://

All my Steam games work fine--except CK2.

I then uninstalled CK2 using steam, verified all local files as directed in https://support.steampowered.com/kb_article.php?ref=2037-QEUH-3335 and tried again.

When I try to launch the game (either via Steam or via the CK2 short cut I get a message from steam to save my CD key to my clipboard--which I do) then the main screen opens (sans all DLCS) that looks like this:

When I click "Register" it simply takes me to this website (where I am already registered)

When I click "Start CK" the window closes and nothing happens.

I don't care about my previous saved games. I just want this game and it's DLCs to work.

Since I have already bought this game (and 3 dlcs) I'd rather not have to re-purchase it simply because of an install error.

I am running on the same computer I had previously been running on. I simply upgraded the hard drive to an SSD. Windows 7 64bit, 16Gb Ram, Intel i7-3610Qm @ 2.30Ghz, Nvidia Geo Force GTX 660M

I am not entirely sure why you'd think that repurchasing would be needed, but that certainly is not the case :)

Please do the following:
First, run Visual C++ 2010.
Second, run Visual C++ 2010 SP1.
Third, run the DirectX (web) installer.
When that is done, go to Windows Update and make sure you have downloaded all .NET updates Windows Update shows you.

Thanks for the reply. Actually you were quite close--or completely correct if you left out the C++ part. After a few hours searching I found this Steam post http://steamcommunity.com/app/203770/discussions/0/828923952084757661/

Apparently the CK2 launcher relies on a .dll file that isn't available in straight up DirectX11 64 bit installs. (One can find this out by simply trying to launch straight from the .exe, as opposed to via Steam--you will get the .dll error.) The DirectX End-User Runtime Web Installer (4/18/2011) solves this problem, found here: https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=35 which I believe is the same as the third link in your reply, so kudos. There were no issues with my VC++ 2010, as they are up to date and in fact the installer wouldn't even allow them to be installed since they were out of date. So, apparently, the launcher is not setup to launch without the older Runtime, which I find slightly odd. Oh well. That is the solution if anyone else has this problem...Now to get back to conquering the world.
