PC-2.3-BTOF Game won't load and freezes computer

I altered some settings on settings.txt (no trees, sky and a few other graphical ones) and tried a new mod (flat map). The game stopped loading (the launcher is fine) and started freezing my computer (need to reset it, total freeze). Tried altering them back to default, no good. Deleted local files through steam, deleted remaining folders manually, reinstalled, no good. Did it all again, verified the game files, set the .exe to run as admin, no good. Set it to 640x480 (or something like that), can't even open the launcher like that. Both times the settings.txt only appears after starting the launcher, both times with what seems like default settings.

All of this because I was foolish enough to believe devs claims that the map and date expanding DLCs wouldn't ruin the performance. Silly me, oh so silly.

The most significant expansion happened between 2.0.4 and 2.1.x when the map was expanded to include India. We are on 2.3 now. All that extra content was in patches, nothing to do with DLCs. So: at what exact stage did this happen, and what exact issue were you trying to address by doing that?

Once you do a full clean re-install, there's no rational reason why the game wouldn't be exactly like it was before you messed with settings.txt :

- move any valued save games elsewhere
- "delete local content" in Steam-CK2
- manually delete all files and folders left under Steam/CK2 AND Documents/Paradox/CK2
- re-install game in Steam, run a Steam Verify when done.
- start the game with no mods active and test

Didn't really play a lot after Rajas. Bought the latest DLC and noticed the game was a lot slower and had audio stutter.

I won't do another clean re-install, already did it twice as you can read in my original post.

Please post a dxdiag.txt (you can delete everything after the end of the "Sound devices" section for brevity) and your Documents/CK2/settings.txt. From your Documents/Paradox/CK2/logs/ directory, post system.log . What version # and checksum do you see a/ in the launcher and b/ in the main game menu?
