After another problem I had, which AndrewT resolved with this:
I'm now unable to start the game. My DLC and mods show up fine, but when I click the Launch button, nothing happens.
I've tried the following solutions from the stickied thread, but to no avail.
- Error message: MSVCP100.dll (or similar) is missing.
Solution: install this: https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/down...s.aspx?id=5555 then
http://www.microsoft.com/download/en...s.aspx?id=8328
- Error message: d3dx9_41.dll (or similar) is missing.
Solution: install this: http://www.microsoft.com/download/en/details.aspx?id=35
The difference between error messages for 3 and 4 is that the latter usually contains d3dx somewhere.
ETA: This fix can also be required even when this error message is not shown by Windows (this particularly seems to happen in Win8). Check for d3dx9_41.dll and d3dx9_43.dll in your c:\windows\system32\ directory. The symptom is that the Launcher lists no DLCs or Mods, and if you hit Play the game does not start. Can often be the case after installing the game on a new machine or after a Windows re-install.
Should I try to opt into the open beta patch or is there another way to fix this?
Well, I have no idea what could be causing this for you two. Let's try a full Steam refresh.
- move any valued save games elsewhere
- "delete local content" in Steam-CK2
- exit Steam
- manually delete all files and folders left under Steam/CK2 AND Documents/Paradox/CK2
- manually delete everything in the Steam folder EXCEPT steam.exe and the /SteamApps/ folder
- manually run steam.exe to rebuild everything there
- re-install game in Steam, run a Steam Verify when done.
- right-click on steam.exe and ck2game.exe, properties, compatibility tab. make sure there are NO boxes checked there, except tick teh "run as admin' box, then click on the 'apply this to all users' button.
