AI War Exhaustion

I created a thread in the general discussions asking if the AI cheats at war exhaustion. Turns out they have a cap of half the human limit for war exhaustion. *bangs head against desk repeatedly*

what do u think I should do now that its my turn? ...I mean Im pretty sure that if I really put my mind to it I could probably hurt atleast one of you really bad....so what are your intentions? Are u planning to all jump me again?

If your intentions are purely to hurt France...well then I probably cant please u (not willingly anyway!)...but if u have other less aggressive goals then perhaps we can come to some sort of aggrement?

claus

I think what you do during your turn will be the determining factor in what happens next. If you continue to expand you put all of us at risk especially Castile. 8^) Seeing that France is the most powerful player in the game you probably can do whatever you want to do. ;) Possibly a France content for a while with internal affairs would clam eveyone down.

The clam affair is a little know event in the history of Castile. It refers to the time in 1474 when Castile offered to pay France 250 clams for peace. France declined the offer.:(

I could have told u that! :D - still I was a bit unsure of how the much good this would do...but it seemed my french AI did pretty well except ofcause that it has some obsession with using infantry instead of good old cavalry....

Maybe the French and Venitian AI should switch. Venice builds all cavalry and then sends them into the mountains, forests, and swamps around us....sheesh:rolleyes:

Venice is all for peace. A little piece of Austria, a little piece of Turkey, a little piece of...:D

Nah, a truce between the four of us is a good thing...besides...that just sets the stage for a big showdown late in the game...wait a minute...that's when France gets Nappy and Spain owns most of the new world....I changed my mind...peace forever...:)

In a solo game I'm playing the AI is showing itself to be at least competent. I've been beating of Austria and its taken me 15 years to finally get the peace agreement I wanted. The French AI did quite well for boehm. So where all one happy family now.:D

Hard/Normal should be the setting.

EDIT: How did I miss RtR answering this question already? *wanders off to take his vitamins (a.k.a. visits the coffee machine for his first cup)*

I just skimmed through this thread because I find PBEM interesting.

One Q though: I find 5 years far too long to be absent. Now that you have started, how does it work in your honest opnions?

sb

Actually you are absent for 15 years and only play 5 years out of every 20 for your nation. It is working okay...but...it is definately different. My initial strategy of expansion through forced vassalizing went out the window quickly. After I had force vassalized a nation, the AI broke ties with my vassal, DoW'ed the former vassal, and then annexed them. 5 years is fine to damage a mid or small sized nation. However, it is not long enough to do anything significant against a big power like France. See my last post in our AAR. You don't have time to properly build up and deploy before having to drop the DoW since you need time to conquer provinces and then negotiate the peace settlement.

Bottom line: There are difficulties but I think it is worth it. Beats the heck out of interacting only with the AI. I plan on playing another PBEM game when this one is over.

...also its quite different compared to a "normal" single player game in the way that its much much more difficult to optimize your DP settings because in effect you can only adjust them one click in 20 years...and also 3/4 of the time it will be the AI which decide which course to take in the historical events...ofcause u can plan on it always taking the historical events...problem is just that it doesnt always do that....

Personally Im really looking forward to seeing the king of Castille decline to form Spain...thats a really nice one!!! No, fancy spanish leaders...no fancy spanich events (like hardcoded bankruptcy!)...and then a small hit to centralisation (-5) :D :D ;)

Believe it or not I've never played Spain before. I don't focus on the exploring aspect of the game so I've never tried them before. I make it a rule to never look at the game files because I like surprises. :D So I really don't know if I will form Spain or even if I'll be in control when the choice is presented. About the game settings. I always play at very hard/aggressive and I 'm wondering if the game gets reset to my settings when I play my turn. I had assumed that the setting are set in the saved game file but maybe not. I'll check it out tonight and make sure it stays hard/normal. Also looking forward to doing another PBEM game. I can think of a few changes but lets talk about that later in the game when we all I'm sure will have suggestions.
