I don't think Zlewikk spending 5 seconds looking at it counts as full evaluation of the feature.

But no, this button will not automatically split your army into smaller chunks and send them all off carpet sieging. I don't think anyone ever stated that it would.

I don't think anyone ever stated that it would.
It does not have to be explicitly stated. The word "carpet" in carpet siege means that you lay a carpet over the enemy provinces and siege many of them at once(analogous to carpet bombing). Otherwise it would be called automatic siege. I have never heard anybody calling the sieging of one province at a time "carpet siege".

It was explicitly stated in the feature-preview streams that the automatic carpet siege feature won't split stacks.

If this is the case, the use of this functionality will be a lot less. I'm curious if it will at least work with automatic transport and you can use it to easily conquer islands.

I don't disagree that the naming is not great (although one could argue that the fundamental feature of a carpet siege is that every province is sieged, not that it is done simultaneously).

Certainly paradox could have done more to clarify this, considering the dev diary thread announcing this feature is rampant with the same assumption about auto stack splitting.

Needing to select individual regions makes this pretty useless. Paradox really needs to have better systems for stuff like this. You need to click almost as much as if you were manually carpet sieging and you don't even get the carpet effect.

If you could just drag a box to select provinces then maybe it might be useful (split stacks->drag select a bunch of provinces->have 20 2k armies sieging them all separately.)

I never trust the AI with my decisions. No automatized diplomacy, no army templates, and in the same way I say no to auto carpet siegeng. Gimme a good ol' fashioned mouse that can click properly, and I will carpet siege Russia AND China for ya. We don't need machines for that.

Bad enough you have to pay for QoL features, but then you find out the "Q" part is actually more of a "q" at best. As stated by others, considering how much discussion there was about this feature (and the fact that it is not free) it is pretty bad form to not have clearly corrected the assumptions people (rightfully) had about the function.

I actually like that it does not create 1k stacks. The mechanic is perfect for me if it carpetsieges with the stacks I designed. I always carpetsiege with stacks of 10k to 10-1 single isolated regiments the AI rebuilt, win vs small armies the opponent might have regrouped, and avoid getting wiped if they meet a large army I forgot. This saves a lot of annoyance and is probably not wasting a lot of time. So long as I can split my 40k stacks in 4 and assign them the carpet siege function, and the 4 stacks siege different provinces, it's perfect for me.

The fundamental feature of carpet sieging is that is sieges everything at once, preventing the AI from building units and sieging not-fortified provinces quickly.

I've got to admit, I assumed it would work by autosplitting, too,

but I'm not too fazed over hearing it doesn't. There's a fair point behind leavng control over the stacksize in player hands, and having to press v a few times before setting a group of smaller stacks to automatic sieging is a fine QoL improvement in my books. In theory. Certainly won't be able to test this in practice.
