Freikorps Karl Marx attempts to take over the city under the guise of a Reichswehr division
...Everywhere else affected by the crisis, disaster struck. Social unrest grew rampant in the dying state of Austria-Hungary. Riots spawned in Vienna, Budapest and Lemberg. It was clear to the world that the structure was rotted and all that required to collapse the balance of power had already occured. The crow's began to circle the sick man of Europe, waiting for his death. Austria's neighbors were eagerly coveting her territories. Poland, Germany and Ukraine both sought the region of Galicia, which contained significant minorities of all three countries. (40% Ukrainian, 30% German and 30% Poles. The significant reduction of Poles occured due to the increased migration to the Polish kingdom). Germany herself sough union with the Austrian Crown-lands, as the populations of both nations have demanded over the years. Hungary sough its freedom, and to maintain its national Kingdom; which had grown to become the economic engine of the Balkans. Austria could no longer keep these threats at bay.
The lands sought after by advocates of a Großdeutschland solution
The German government began to stoke the flames of German nationalism once more. With Germans comprising a significant minority in most European countries (anywhere between 15-30% of the total population of MittelEuropa outside of Germany and Austria), any Großdeutschland solution will not involve a Greater Germany but the Greatest Possible Germany.
Peace demands War
[/FONT]In Germany, the effects of the stock market crash were contained; marginally so. The government immediately guaranteed the savings of Germans, which prevented the catastrophic bank runs experienced in America. Contained to prevent the most dangerous of effects, but not enough to stifle the flame of syndicalism and revolution within the 'politically active'; most of whom answered to their paymasters in Paris and London. These were tolerated until they acquired weapons and munitions and attempted to revolt against the local government in Lubeck...until they remembered the Reichswehr division that was stationed within minutes of the city. The revolutionaries were quickly crushed, their party disbanded and their leaders executed. All as a symbol to any would-be volkshelden and to Germany's neighbors.
The crisis proved invaluable to the military, who could draw with impunity from the ranks of the unemployed to fill the manpower needs of the military. This, combined with increased military spending and production, boosted the economy significantly; significantly enough to reverse much of the damage caused by Schwarzer Montag. Germany was preparing for the conflict looming. The leadership understood that Germany had dodged the bullet, but the world did not.

Germany was readying its military forces for a third-and final confrontation with its bitter rivals. Defeat is not an option.
