If you make the angle of your grids 60 degrees instead of 90 degrees, all kinds of interesting combinations become available. (You should use the precise engineering mod that allows you to measure your roads more accurately)

Here are some patterns I've come up with:

Purple lines are one way round abouts. Blue are one ways going into the round about, orange is one way going out of the round about, red is a one way bridge leaving the round about. Green is parks.

My rules are that no crossing my include more than 4 connections, except if the extra connections is a one way going away from the crossing. All grids are designed to fit around a central park. The image above gives the base pattern. The grids can be extended outward indefinitely, or the pattern can be repeated (below)

This is something I've obsessed about in paint, loosing hours of critical sleep. I hope this helps someone to get his/her creative juices flowing.
