Shouldnt Patriots only defect to nations with cores or common culture to the province. I am playing as Alsace and I did not expect the Patriots in Cyprus to become Alsace as a province when they succeded. I thought they would go Greece, or Byzantine, maybe Trebizond. Instead they go to me. I do not get it.

If you create them with spies, they defect to you. Uberpowerful against OPMs and TPMs.

I did not know that until it happened. I am supprised as surely a Patriot does not want to be ruled by a foreign power. It does not seem logical to me.

It didn't do that in IN, unless you had a core on the province.

That was the Beta. It is the one I am playing in my AAR. I also noticed that when I tried to do that with Metz and Barrios under Burgundian occupation they formed Lorraine. I was not impressed. No obvious consistancy. Coincidently I managed to use patriots in one place to take Rome. Very odd.

I am OK with patriots joining my country, after all I financed their liberation, they can see me as a savior of sorts.

What troubles me is that they attack provinces owned by the proper culture. Sicilian patrios who siege sicily/naples and then join provinces to me. That IS ODD and unbalanced. I funded once patriots in india and due to hem having latin tech army level they sieged & gave me lots of provinces... Patrios in 3.2b were boring and useless. Now you have a reason to use them. When they stop attacking provinces owned by the proper culture counry hey should be balanced.

I think most consider this a bug (mainly as it's a changed behaviour from IN which had the same functionality). Not sure if it's been reported though.

Aye, I'd call it a bug. As a OPM, I managed to gain 10 provinces across Europe that I had no core on or similar culture to.

I was also able to use patriots As Brandenburg to gain half of modern day Germany within 8 years.

Right now, I consider it broken, but do want the ability to use the rebels, so I tend to just sell the newly defected province to a friendly country that neighbors it for 0 ducats.

Do patriots stop once they captured their target or do they go on a rampage through the surrounding countryside? If yes, somebody should do an WC AAR without declaring war on anybody. Only defensive wars, inheritances and patriots.

And what is their strength based on? Wealth of the province, spy efficiency, something else?
