When I run the 1.08 patch installer I get an error every time it gets to 8%. The message, word for word:

"An option you selected requires that files be installed on your system, or files be uninstalled from your system, or both. A read only file, \ai\default.ai, was found while performing the needed file operations on your system. To perform the file operation, click the Yes button, otherwise, click No."

If I click yes or no it just brings on one file after another with the same message. There is also a 'do not display this message again' check box, if I select that (or when I take the time to do the 500 clicks to say 'yes' to each file) the installation completes, but when I start EU2 it shows as unpatched.

For what it's worth I'm running windows XP professional.

Thanks in advance.

Are you installing over a fresh install from CD or over another patch? I don't think there should be any read-only files on a clean install, only from patches. The easiest way to get rid of the messages is to remove the read-only status on all the files before you install the new patch. One possibility that might explain your problems: you have a clean install from CD in one location and installed a patch to a different location. Then you install the new patch to the same location as the other patch (or a previous install of the same patch) but your original install has still not been patched so it shows the old version number when you run it. Make sure when you install the patch you are pointing to the same directory as your original game is installed; this might not be the default path that the patch gives you.

I think you were right, when I manually set the destination for the patch it worked fine.

Thanks :)
