Is Diplomacy going to get the same treatment as HoI2 when it comes to patches? If so I wont be preordering Diplomacy.

Anyhoo, what kind of "treatment" do you want?

I am not cheery about the whole thing. HoI1&2 is one of the best games made and they are sitting on it and not making it better. It needs a patch at lest one more the 1.3 patch.
I'm afraid I have to disagree with you on the Vicky comment. It is in dire need of the 1.4 patch. There are alot of important balancing issues in the economy(not to mention that it will allow VIP 0.5 to finally come outlucaluca said:agree with you for CK, really an unfineshed game and, at the end, disappointing. But EUII and Victoria seem rather complete: the bigger issue I find in them is the not so good AI, but that's something which seems very difficult to make perfect.

I originally found Paradox somwhere around EU2 1.02 (I remember almost buying EU1 on several occasions). EU2 at that point was a decent game and lots of fun, but I doubt I would have played it for more than a month if there had not been more patches. They really, really tightened up the game! I was so happy with the level of support EU2 got that I bought CK/HOI1/VIC without reservations. I as pretty happy with the ammount of support HOI1 got (although it definitely needed at least 1 moe patch IMO), but I could understand this lack since HOI2 was coming. One of paradoxes problems is that they make such great ambitious games that people are very disappointed when they don't grow to full adulthood. And their customer base is generally the type of people who are thoughtful and caring enough to notice problems with the game and want them fixed.
A lot of the games I buy get played for a few days/weeks and then put away permanently because they no longer interest me. The problem with paradox games is that it is so easy to fall in love with what they could be with just a little more time/money/effort. This leaves people feeling betrayed when that potential is not realized. I am sure everyone knows what i am talking about (even Johan). IMO I really think HOI2/VIC/CK are still works in progress whether or not paradox thinks so. If I could go back and change the course of my life I would have studied programing and moved to Sweden so i could help make these games all they could be. Anyway, I stopped playing paradox's extant games until they recieve another patch about a year ago. I am a little bitter, but I understand the financial realities of the buisness world. I even bought the horrible Medieval RTS they published (great idea, so many issues) as a show of support.
I will also buy Diplomacy, because I love paradox and love Diplomacy, I have also somehow cajoled 8 of my friends to buy it. (Paradox might really get a bigger response to this game then they think since I think it may be many people's first CPU game, and Diplomacy players are great at word of mouth ). I hope this game is a nice solid cash cow for paradox and I hope the matching service is rock solid.![]()
Becephalus, I agree wholeheartedly. Europa Universalis 1 was the first Paradox game I bought, and I bought them all ever since. But I'll not preorder Diplomacy because the way Paradox handles its games has changed with HoI 2. Maybe there are good (economical?) reasons for it, but somehow I dislike it and that's why I'll handle this one differently.Becephalus said:I originally found Paradox somwhere around EU2 1.02 (I remember almost buying EU1 on several occasions).
