patches require password

I was thinking after a long time of playing any HoI games to come back to DH, but both the official and beta patches ask for a password to unrar them, I'd like to ask why is this, and how could i get the password?

Passwords can be found at the attached TXT files at first post of every patch thread.

Probably so people can't just hotlink to the patch files without also having access to the password from the (registered user only) tech support forum.
